Our u17 team just wrapped up the group stage of the u17 World Cup this morning...been really busy with college basketball stuff so haven't watched a second of the tournament outside of our games, but watched all 3 of them. No overly impressive performances thusfar, but 3 one goal wins over Burkina Faso, Tajikistan, and the Czech Republic. With this expanded tournament (like the World Cup, they've moved to 48 teams), there is an extra round of knockout games (32 of the 48 teams advance), so looks like we'll get Morocco in the round of 32 (Morocco is coming off a 16-0 win today over New Caledonia).

Best player on the field for us has been Cavan Sullivan...he's a Philly Union guy that broke Freddy Adu's record for youngest ever MLS player a few years ago (his older brother Quinn has received a few caps at the senior level and played a lot for our youth national teams).

We will be down one guy for the round of 32, Mateo Tsakaris, from what I thought was a really bad call on a red card. It was ruled a yellow at first, but VAR upgraded to a red. Hoping that video pops up somewhere of it (haven't seen it on twitter yet, but will link it if/when I do).

Morocco is usually the death nail of any US national team at whatever level. But, perhaps our boys have a chance given that Morocco finished their group in third with losses to Japan and Portugal—but a loss would be no shock. Cavan definitely is ahead of his peers, but I would like to see more of that translated on the pitch for the Union before his deal with Man City starts up.

Sullivan off the bench in the first match was nigh and day better than any player on the pitch. He will be a force down the line. In other news I despise so many international breaks in the fall.....it just sucks.

Why the hell can I not find this U17 match anywhere? Supposed to be on Peacock, but I got nothing.

If Reyna is fit, he 100% belongs in the team. Whether or not he starts is dependent upon who else is fit and who the opponent is. But, he clearly raises the quality of the squad and he was very influential tonight.

Balogun continues to show how important his recruitment was to the USMNT.

After already having to use a weakened starting XI, after all of the second half subs came on the level of play clearly dropped and things got disjointed with Paraguay pressing for an equalizer.

Over all, I am pleased with the effort and result. Tuesday will be a much bigger test.

I mean, that was unexpected from an understrength USMNT against a country like Uruguay. But, I love it.

That Berhalter performance probably seals the deal that Johnny will not make the World Cup squad, despite him playing for a club we could only have dreamed a US player would play for 10 years ago.

Watched it late night, and certainly didn't see that performance coming. When I saw the starting lineup before the game, I was in no rush to watch it.

Johnny is such an enigma to me...I don't watch him enough in Spain to see what all the fuss is about, but those that do seem to love him. He's never shown much of anything in a US jersey. If he and Berhalter is an "either or" situation, I don't know how you don't choose Berhalter based on results (and the service that he can offer).

I'd think that Freeman and Luna solidified their spots on the squad next summer...still TBD on what their roles will be. Reyna also had a nice window to play himself back into the mix.

That wasn't Uruguay's "A" team, but it wasn't ours either. Can't believe we dominated them like that...I haven't found a xG from the game and I'm sure that variance was very much on our side. But incredible performance regardless (and great job taking advantage of those scoring chances).

Uruguay looked terrible. I haven't seen a national team give possession away so much since ... well, the USMNT a year ago. That being said, our guys looked good and took advantage of those errors. Choosing a WC team should be interesting. While quite a few solidified their stock in this 2 game set, a few may have hurt their chances. I really like Aaronson's energy but he may have sealed his fate. I also don't get the love for Morris.

I don't even think McIntyre got the formation right. The trend lately has been going with three defenders in the back—and it's been working for them. If Antonee Robinson is fit this summer and Poch reverts back to four in the back, then I think he needs to start as one of the fullbacks.
