Utah’s Kyle Whittingham on Texas-Oklahoma SEC realignment: “It’s just the tip of the iceberg”

“It’s the tip of the iceberg,” the longtime Utes head coach told The Salt Lake Tribune Tuesday at Pac-12 media day at The W Hollywood. “I think there’s a seismic shift that’s going to take place in college football and it’ll never be the same down the road once all this change takes place. Right now, everyone’s trying to scramble to get themselves positioned for, financially first of all, and relevance.”......

“I don’t think college football will ever be the same going forward as we know it,” Whittingham said. “The whole dynamic of it’s going to change.”

Like I said there’s a ton **** on the table right now. As I posted a few days ago it’s about brainstorming the end game right now. Still get a sense the ACC is the fly in the ointment with the relatively new long term contracts possibly delaying something huge. It’s gotten a bit quiet on second tier sources which tells me things are getting intense. When info is only in small inside group you know it’s big.

IMO The BigTen and PAC12 hook up in a partnership and create a Western Mega Conference. who knows what revenue splits would look like but controlling the West would be attractive to the BigTen. Would seem then that the SEC creates an Eastern Conference by grabbing/or partnering with however many ACC/any other schools they want to include.

Playoffs could look and smell like NFL. Divisional/Conference playoff then a College Super Bowl.

Rest of the sports lock in similar format then bye bye NCAA. March madness relegated to 5-10 real hoop programs. Then the big boys can set up their own March Madness and NCAAs turn into NIT 😂

The change that's happening is one thing, whether it will be good for the game is another. I may be in a minority but I'm less of a college football fan now than I was 10 or 20 years ago. I don't like the changes and it's not just because WVU might get left out. Even if WVU ends up in the ACC I won't like the state of college football, although I'll be less unhappy that I would if WVU doesn't end up in the ACC.

CFB goes to a 12 team playoff…

Remember the days of the Big East.
There is a better chance that comes back in the AAC than the ACC
WVU can become a perennial CFP contender
Matters what other teams the AAC brings in.
Let’s say they just bring in WVU to replace UCONN
Name me one school that WVU doesn’t have a huge advantage over in terms of market. UCF is a regional school in their state. Same with Cincinnati, Houston and Memphis.
They will be the biggest in the litter. A bully over the food bowl.

Of course the issue becomes about having the money to keep coaches.
But I think most schools are shying away from AAC coaches for now. Unless somehow Norvell proves the narrative incorrect

Stuck on this P5 vs G5

As of right now
1 Super Conference
2 Good Conferences
2 Average Conferences
Bunch of junk conferences

Just as long as you get into one of the Top 5 you are good
The P5 vs G5 doesn’t exist anymore
There is one Power conference that doesn’t exist anymore
One Power Conference who pretty much was already above the rest who got dramatically better in any measurable category

AAC is on the same level as the PAC 12 according to recent info.
Since 2015 PAC has won 3 NYD bowl games
AAC has won two

You go to a 12 team playoff their champion will get in pretty much every year

My issue with that is the "super conference" has Vanderbilt, KY, SC in it...

If they are going direction of purely powerhouse programs, drop the dead weight and add tOSU, Clemson

Vanderbilt is an elite baseball program
Kentucky is an elite basketball program
S Carolina is an elite women’s basketball program and has a decent history in baseball

You will have bottom feeders in one sport no matter how many alphas you add
Not everyone can win. Someone has to lose

SEC does the best job at using other sports for fanbases to release their anger.
It is a football conference first and foremost. No lying about that…
But other sports matter and get attention.

Look no further than Tennessee at basketball and baseball
