Alright, time to take a break from the Tre speculation and focus on UVA. They are just flat out dominating these days. Up by almost 30 against VT right now (a Top 10 team, and rival nonetheless) is impressive.

How do we beat these guys? They really don’t like losing ACC reg season games

You attack. With Tre I think we beat them without it’s a toss up. Transition will be hard but I think if Duke attacks and doesn’t settle for threes we win. If Zion and Barret along with Reddish and White and Alex can hit threes it will open the floor.

It’s gonna be a dog fight

Well, I took a quick peek at the box score, and UVA is 13 of 21 beyond the arc (62%). That's pretty hard to beat. Duke has to take them out of their comfort zone, and play with blistering intensity on every play...and yes that means diving on the floor, out of bounds or whatever it takes with no taking off plays. It's 4 more days, K and the staff will use it well to get our guys ready. We're going to take this game.

Exactly! We absolutely can not settle and chuck up nonsensical threes! Zion also needs to get in the paint and score in the paint.

We can't let them dictate the pace of the game but that's easier said than done especially since Tre is down. Add that they now can score a lot of points is gonna make it tougher. I'm no basketball guru by any means but we still have to play our game. Keep in mind we still have RJ, Zion and Cam all of who can create their on offense. If those guys are on and hitting all cylinders it's gonna create an easier time for Jack and Alex to get some open shots. Goldwire must hold his own and it would be nice if Bolden and Javin to control things inside. We no doubt have to hit free throws. Take smart shots and hustle. We may not win Sat. but I think this team is gonna play some inspired basketball Sat. I'm asking a lot but we still are loaded with talent. We are at home and the crazies could make a difference too. GO DUKE. OFC

I’d rather play UVA after they destroyed their rival. Throw in a hungry Duke team coming off a loss, and I smell a chance for success.

Absolutely, FTB! They're destroying people, Duke is wounded, and I know the UVA players (no matter that Bennett warns them) thinks that Duke is really ripe for the easy picking. Duke will play strong. Come and get some.

I say we play Cam at the point on D. He's a great defender and can produce steals and turnovers, maybe not as much as Tre but who can? Offensively we just gotta make some shots and drive hard and get their bigs in foul trouble. Turnovers could be a big issue without Tre, we gotta take care of it or else we're toast. I quite frankly don't like our chances, and if Tre is out too long it's gonna be another disappointing season. Hope I'm wrong but...eh

We absolutely will have to make perimeter shots. If we don’t, it will be almost impossible to win. Also, they can’t shoot it well. Make them go side-to-side and hope our length can be a factor.

We’re a completely different team without Tre....but we’re not a bad team.

UVA is old school. Play great defense and run an efficient offense with 2 PG's that could potentially be NBA players. I think its a tall ask for us to overcome Tre's loss on such a short turnaround against a well organized and talented team. I havent abandoned all hope of a win but we will need to play out of our skin to get the victory....possible but not probable.

Lol @ me. Line opens at -3.5. Apparently it would be -4 if Tre played.
They still have us as the favorite even with knowing that Tre won’t play? That’s quite surprising. If Virginia’s defense wasn’t as good as it is like usual and they didn’t also have a top 10 defense then I could see why they would have us as a favorite. As long as Cam has gotten over his illness by Saturday and he’s 100% then I feel much better about our chances against Virginia especially since it’s at home.

It was on SportsCenter. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. If I were in Vegas I wouldn’t touch this game.

Zion is gonna have to play smart and Reddish because Virginia will exploit their youth and get them in foul trouble.

Stopping Guy is the key to having a chance. If he torches Duke it’s gonna be a long night and the kid can flat out ball

Wait.....these guys shouldn’t be diving on the floor for loose balls and risk getting hurt. That might damage their draft status.

Dirt I like the time to get ready too! Remember the 2001 team which lost Boozer to an injury in a senior nite home loss vs Md?? K revamped and 3 days later we destoyed UNC in an ABC telecast in the NOSE DOME.I think we get 'er done! OFC

I think we had a 50/50 shot with Jones to beat UVA. I’m not so confident that Duke wins without him. He isn’t Dukes best player but he is one of the most important players with his on the ball defense and court awareness.

My jaw dropped when I saw the line for the game Saturday. Really was expecting to be around a pick or getting 1.
Uva, for the most part, just strangles their opponent. They have been so dominant in conference play. K has been known to do some of his best work when it doesn’t look as promising. Hope he does it again.

Apparently, so does Vegas.

UVA has always hacked the living mess out of our guys when we play and fouls don’t get called bc they are known for their great defense (sort of like when a player gets a reputation for being foul prone and it sticks with them all season). I predict a game where Zion is practically murdered by every defender thrown at him with not a single foul called. I also predict a ton of offensive fouls called in a questionable manner that will leave all of us groaning. I expect nothing less than 3 of our guys having 4 fouls against them with a likely possibility of an important player fouling out for us.

I also think this is a big reason why UVA doesn’t do great in the tourney. Refs officiate different and don’t always give them the benefit of the doubt like ACC refs seem to do. Make no mistake, this is gonna be a hack fest. We will need to hit our FT’s. Hope we hit enough to win!

Most basketball fans would give UVA a huge advantage for the game Saturday. Double digit win. Not sure what Vegas is looking at. Duke’ defense is all I can think of.

Oh. I couldn't disagree with you more. UVA is a highly focused, experienced basketball team with lot's of depth. I can assure you that they will not take you guys lightly. After their embarrassing loss to UMBC last year, Bennett and company are on a mission. They'll be more than ready for Duke Saturday.

Agreed we have to shoot the 3 reasonably well to have a chance. It would be nice to speed them up a bit if we can, but that is going to be a tall order. Zion must stay out of foul trouble. Oh, and it would be nice if UVA didn't shoot 60% from 3 like the did against Tech last night. o_O

It's a tall order, but I think K has us ready, and we dig out a scrappy win.

Probably looking at the fact we still have the top 2 projected picks in the draft and another in the top 10.

Ok, something no one (I have seen mention).

Obviously, it goes without saying, we would want Tre out there. But there are a few small thing going in our (small) favor...

1. No one knows what the hell to expect from Duke, including UVA. In 2001 when Boozer got hurt in 2001, K and the staff circled the wagons and figured out a plan and we dropped kicked the Heels in the cheater dome. We may look completely different. Cam Reddish had to adjust to a role of not having the ball in his hands to run the ship when he came to Duke. I do not pretend he will have the defense or assists Tre brings, but it should be interesting if he is at point.

2. This has been touched on, yes this is Duke. Yes, UVA got embarrassed last season by UMBC. But after our tough loss at home, losing Tre, and UVA slapping a top-10 team, if you do not think a little "we got this in the bag" is creeping into UVA's players mind - intentional or not, you are crazy. Even a little bit of this thinking, Duke can pounce. I do not remember the year, but before the UVA home game, K had the word attack printed on a lot of sheets of paper and the lockerroom was plastered with it and we came out and UVA did not know what hit them. Last game for Duke was a fluke. Not having Cam, and then losing Tre, we were a rudderless ship with no plan.

3. There is almost no way we can play worse, and Syracuse better, than Monday. And Duke still could have very easily won against a team that is definitely NCAA Tournament quality. UVA could not have played better against VT. Very rarely do those two things happen twice in a row.

They are perenially one of the smartest teams out there. Without Tre, we make many immature decisions on both ends. If Guy and Jerome are hot from 3, I don’t like our chances. We have to hope Zion can’t be contained and stays on the floor. Barrett needs to draw fouls and limit his 3s. Cam needs to stay in motion and rebound. We can win this, but we need to flex big time. We need to beat guys off the dribble and overpower their guards. ATTACK! Be overly aggressive.

It is just so hard to consistently drive on UVA, and that is paramount to Duke's success. That is exacerbated by the fact that without Tre, Duke won't get as many transition runouts, another crucial component to beating UVA.

It will be a very tall order, but Duke is capable. They need a UK game-esque shooting night.
