Well at least that’s a different approach.
Fines have never worked because they don’t punish the people doing the actual storming. Students don’t care if the school gets fined, they just wanna have fun.

The best court storming policy is to be good enough of a program that it doesn’t happen when you do get a big win every once in a while.
That said, I think when it happens, it’s a cool thing for non-traditional powers.

"On Friday, Vandy issued a new court-storming policy. At the end of games, the school will run a one-minute countdown clock to get opposing teams an officials off the court. Once the clock hits zero, everyone can then storm the court."

Ok, I just have a couple questions I'd like to ask :
#1 - Does this mean the Vanderbilt trophy case has room for commemorating these court storming events for the lofty annals of Vanderbilt University's history in football and basketball ? Especially basketball.
#2 - This new "allowing court storming policy" mean that the University is just gonna pony up the next 500,000 fine ? Is there a NIL donation you want to provide to cover for expenses for that, and if not, then where will those funds come from ?
and if I may add one more question :
#3 - All this is assuming Vanderbilt will have more opportunities in the future for these court storming-worthy moments? Or will the SEC be allowing the officials in the game to help make sure the magic is still there to ensure they have these moments?"

personal comment : I don't want to count my chickens before they hatched, but how many of these court storming worthy remembrance moments have we had? It was so long before this season that Vandy had ONE, let alone TWO BIG wins vs UT and UK, and in football? beating Bama' was once in a lifetime. (ok 40 years?
But thanks for letting the opposing teams get away before it ensues, for safety sake.

My guess is by allowing the teams to leave the court first, there are no fines because those fines are related to player safety

The idea they would have to leave a collections jar at midcourt for donations to offset the cost for a "court / field storming worthy moment for commemoration sake in the bulging trophy case" ...
... the mere idea was starting to wear heavy on my heart for them. but .... whatever saves a buck for them !

The article doesn’t provide much info. Has the SEC agreed not to fine them if the court storming takes place after the one minute timer? Is there anything in place to “encourage” students to wait the one minute?

Honestly, if schools wanted to delay/prevent students from storming the court, it would be quite simple…
Students have to present an ID to get in the game. If they are caught on the court/field outside of a specified time, their priveleges to attend games are suspended for one year and they will be fined by the university $500-1000.

Appreciate them trying something new but don’t see it working, especially if the students have been drinking.
The best policy would be for the NCAA to force empty seats in the lower sections. Court storming would stop.
College kids high on life, hormones, and other things. It's like asking a bear not to crap in the woods.
I like that somewhat, but I'd venture to guess the season ticket in the most expensive seats are not the main culprits of the court storming...I'd guess it's primarily students
With that in mind, another option would be to ban all students from the game immediately following a court storming.
Yep, that one hurt... I watched that whole game with my brother-in-law, who happens to be a big LSU fan. He was disappointed and walking out the door going to work as that stupid pass occurred. Neither of us could believe it.
Needless to say, his drive to work was much better.
I think this could work, if done properly. Home team goes out to mid court, music starts playing and some lighting effects, the team is getting hyped for the crowd to join them to celebrate...countdown is on the screen and they rush onto the court when it hits zero and celebrate with the players.

Vandy basically has the perfect set up for a moat. Lease some crocs and piranhas for the season and let the chips fall.
