I don't know even know how this work. As an exempt game, I assume it wouldn't be recognized at all by the NCAA, and I'm sure the CFP committee would have disregarded it entirely.

Otherwise, if they played the game and it worked in their favor to get into the CFP, every fringe team would do this every year.

That said, it will probably happen eventually. All these kinds of things start out as wacky ideas that don't initially get traction. It only every takes one person or team to actually pull the trigger on it.

They apparently reached out to Miami, probably assuming they would bite at the chance to improve their playoff resume as well.

That's more effort than we gave to boost our playoff hopes last year, however ridiculous it is.

I did not see a reference to any particular school, there was the blurb "several interested parties", but nothing specific.

Perhaps they should have done better than scheduling Charleston Southern and Georgia St.

Here's what I dont get though, we can easily end this kind of last minute nonsense if the worthless committee announced the playoff teams a few days earlier. They keep saying things like they dont want teams to be punished for playing in their conference championship. Well maybe they dont need to be rewarded for it as well. Why cant the brain trusts come up with a fix like, idk, announce the teams as soon as the regular season ends and before the CCGs begin. Good grief this is not rocket science.

The day is coming soon where the conferences are going to want to eliminate these games. Look at this year in the B1G. #1 OSU vs #2 Indiana.
Obviously both teams are in and most likely 1st round byes. There is no benefit to be gained by this game by either team, if anything there is the risk an injury that could sideline a player(s) for the next round or beyond.
I'm aware of the financial reasons for an argument to perpetuate this game, which may have held true as little as 3 years ago, but any benefits become diminished with the expansion of playoff teams coming within the next 2 years.

I tend to agree. All it will take is one conference saying we are done and then go on to declare a champion based on their season. So they sit home and rest while the other's play their championship games. I gotta believe that will be the last year of the CCG. That said, I do have more faith in that happening than I do the committee doing the right thing.

Unless they include all 136 teams, someone will complain about being left out.

How about a playoff for the bottom 4 teams (Charlotte, Georgia State, Sam Houston, and UMASS) to determine the worst team in college football?

Oooooh. The red-headed stepdaughter's bowl. I love it. No matter what they do, they won't get invited to the ball.

If SEC shorts does a Cinderella skit with the Vandy Pimp, you heard it here first.

ACC will be the first in line for that!
