Ryan Day didn't develop countless OSU wr in the NFL. Hartline recruited and developed them. Sure there is some risk with him, just like anyone. Rhule and his like HC are the safe play and they win as many games or less than Franklin. I don't want 8 win seasons.... I want to beat OSU Michigan and Oregon....you won't get that with Rhule and the other HC coaches like him being talked about for PSU. The ceiling is much higher with Key, Golesh and Hartline. Plus Hartline has the relationship with all the high school players and coaches already.
But would Hartline have gotten those level of players if he wasn’t at OSU? It’s easier to develop five star guys than two star guys.

Huff?? lol
I've moved Chesney up my list. Last year after Cignetti drained the JMU roster with portals to Indiana, Chesney still won 9 games. This year JMU has 6 wins. He is younger and a PA native. Already has recruiting contacts in the DMV and probably PA & NC. Certainly PSU could get him for millions less than they were paying CJF: I would say 6 or 7 million per year for 4yrs.

He’d be great.

No doubt, but at the same time, I don’t think you need 5 stars across the board to win national titles. If he can develop 3-4 star players into productive players that’s huge. Without a single WR reception last year the team could have won a semi.

But there’s no evidence he can develop 3-4 star players.

Again, it’s a risky hire for a reason. I don’t think any coach has this key to unlock the skills of 3-4 star players over and over again to the point that you’re a championship program. One here, one there, but just because he’s such a good recruiter of talent, not sure I would hold development against him.
Why don’t you believe he’d be able to recruit 4-5 stars to Penn State? Did you read the article? Ohio State had no 5 star recruits at the position the preceding half decade before he arrived. Have had numerous since. I think he’d recruit the position very well.

There is a candidate with evidence of 3-4 star development, and I’d be even happier to get him than Hartline. Joe Brady was Co-OC at LSU when they had Chase and Jefferson. Both clearly unicorn NFL talents, neither 5 star recruits.

Kraft said the next coach will have lots of money for players.

Mainly because PSU has not been known as WRU ever. It’s a harder sell to get a top notch WR to come to PSU than it is a RB. And I’m not sure Hartline has the brand to be able to do that without the OSU name behind him.

At 87, I think Phil Knight is a little old to coach, but I suppose he could be a "coach emeritus" or something.

Terry Pegula is only 74, though.

Any other billionaires out there that might want to stand on the sidelines with a detached look and spend money on their players?
