30 year vet, denied a ticket today; said I had to either be a student or faculty member.
Oh well. I'll just watch it on tv.

Not a good look at all. Bad PR.

Depends entirely on how it was set up and worded initially, not by the OP who says all vets get a plus 1, but by UK, however they released it. If they released it as all vets, well, that was really dumb... but if they did that, then yeah, this is an atrocious look. If they announced it as all vets currently enrolled or on staff, that's still an awesome move, gets the seats filled for a big game when seats might be empty otherwise, and is manageable. There are a lot of veterans in and around the area. more than 30K. The stadium wouldn't seat all those who wanted them and their buddy even if not a single other ticket was sold.

The logistics of all vets get in free is a nightmare, dollars to donuts it was staff/students from the beginning, but hopefully wasn't fine print.

I tried looking it up last night but couldn't find anything online about it. So it may have just come down to the original source who started another thread didn't hear all the information before posting it. Even KSR ran with it by retweeting some unknown source.

Yep, I called this morning. You have to be a student. Don't the students get tickets for 5 bucks already? So, not really a very good promotion.

You don't have to be a student, just an alumni...meaning you were a student at one time.

I started the tweet last night. I called yesterday and reserved 4 tickets for myself. I am currently Active Guard Reserve not a student. They asked if I was a student and I told them no. They asked for my name and said to pick up the tickets at will call on Saturday.
At no time during my conversation with the Veterans center did they say you had to be a student. After receiving my confirmation of the tickets, I wanted to pass it along to all other veterans.

I do not know why UK had a change of heart or if the person who took my name bent the rules alittle in my favor but my intention was to help pack CWS and ensure other veterans where taken care of.

Could it of been just so many were given to be handed out? Therefore had someone called early they get in like a while supply last. No way they would stop ticket sales now to make sure those were handed out first. But instead had a small portion (maybe that was the 25 dollar section sold in a group price the said organization for them to distribute)

No inside information, but I'm sure there was a set number to be handed out and stopped once they reached that.

And to add to previous post. The New Mexico State was the veterans/heros day where free tickets were distributed. So even if they gave out any is going above and beyond what they announced they were Doing. Here is from the promotion release

Kentucky football’s annual Heroes Day will take place on Sept. 17. All active, reserve and veteran members of the armed forces along with police, firefighters and first responders will be honored at the event. UK Athletics is pleased to honor heroes by providing free tickets to service members.

not a good look at all. ****** way to treat our vets. Shame on you to the University of Kentucky.
Dude, UK never made the offer to give all vets free tickets. Somebody hears something, spreads it on social media...that's on them, not UK. I've searched every official UK media sight and there is no mention of any such offer. It's no different than me telling everyone that you are giving something away and then being mad at you when they find out that I was wrong.
People shouldn't take it upon themselves to promote things for other people unless they are asked to do so. I'm sure no harm was intended but it isn't UK's responsibility to cover for someone else's error.

I called the number and they are out of tickets . Also it was only for CURRENT students who are veterans. It was worth a shot.

Matt Jones initially said all vets, but it was just for alumni that are veterans. This caused a tad pit of confusion. Larry Vaught may have done the same thing.

As a vet I will apologize for my post. I got my info from Matt Jones and yet once again he did not have the facts. Please do not take this out on UK for it is not their fault for miss information being leaked. All I ask is everyone who goes be loud and crazy and let's beat these dogs...go Big Blue..

I am a vet and an Alumni and they said tickets are only for vets who are current students or faculty. I can afford a ticket but could not pass on a special offer for vets. I hold no grudge against the University since the confusion was not really their doing.
