Just some random thoughts on this weekend’s CFB.

Penn State
- most things have been said so I will not rehash. But it was about time that PSU played beyond the level of their opponent.
- During the game, when Velliuex came in, the announcers were discussing he night be.a hot name in the portal this offseason. I guess that is a function of the time.
- At 6’6” and about 270 #, would like to see Nwosu lay the wood on a kick returner some time. I mean - why should Joey Julius be the most feared kicker in PSU history?
- Can someone who was at the game please respond to poster 86Ed below regarding the pre-game video? If someone can post a copy of hat video, that would be nice.

Other games
- App State - nice win. And anyone who says that time of possession is not important is wrong. App State’s ball control wore down a more talented A&M D-line.
- Texas. This was going to be your coming out party. But eventually, you reminded us that Bama is the best for a reason. You can’t give them any daylight and you did.
— Georgia Southern rolled up some 640 yards against Nebby. Pretty sure Trev Albert has his hand on the door knob to show Frost out.
- Mark Stoops Is going to be pursued pretty heavily if UK keeps this up. John Calipari who?
- Tennessee - nice win. Grab a Primanti’s sammich on your way out of town.
- Most of us missed it, but Baylor-BYU bad an exciting finish.
- After Frost, the next guy on a hot seat has to be the guy at Navy. Lost to D-1AA Delaware and then Memphis this week - no offense at all, although it seems like his defense is playing well.
- Northwestern’s win over Nebby in week one does not look so impressive now. PSU pulls it out over Auburn, they can be 5-0 before the break.
- Clemson, from what I saw, did not look impressive against Forman.
- Iowa. LOL LOL LOL LOL. Suck it Ferents. Oh yeah….BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
- Auburn had a tough time with SJ State. Their board is locked, but from what I was able to read - they are not feeling confident.

Edit - Congrats to former PSU coach Charles Huff for his teams victory over the Domers.

Looking forward to heading to the Plains nezt week.

If Texas doesn’t lose Ewers and makes the missed FG, they might win. If anything, Bama showed they’re not the #1 team in the country.

I wouldn’t count on it. This is just the kind of performance Nick Saban needs to kick some *** and get his team to stop reading their press clippings and play football.
Alabama doesn’t need to be #1 on September 11. It’s where they finish on January 11 that counts.

Like PSU so many times against OSU.

And Vellieux is too good to be a third-stringer. He should have seen a lot more playing time last season.

I would like to see the 6'6" , 270# kicker get it to the end zone a lot more frequently
I'm not so sure. No stats to quote, but I'm pretty sure Ohio started most of their drives inside the 20. No touchbacks isn't so bad.

What about the Ohio State transfer whiffing on a wide-open total sitting-duck 'can't miss this one' sack that would have won the game for Texas? It's what happens when you take your eye off the target.

Transfer portal has made the playing field much more even - this will catch up to Bama and as evidence by yesterday’s game, it already has.

Pry got his first win at VT. Their defense looked great but they have QB issues.

As tough as that missed tackle was, the uncalled holding on the DE is what allowed Young to make that run though. Hard to believe that just wasn’t seen.

I concur. It was mostly Paterno. Crowd was pretty loud when he appeared. Don’t have a copy though.

Alabama brings in so much high end talent every year that they can survive the transfer portal better than most everyone. For 2023 8 of the top 100 are committed to Alabama, with several more considering the Tide.

True - but they can’t horde talent anymore; those guys can bounce if they want (and many will). A decade ago Texas would have to wait two years or so to get Ewers on the field. It’s as much about what other teams can do as it is about what Bama does.

Actually if Texas would have sacked the Bama QB and not let him run for 10-12 yards-they might have pulled it out.
