Anyone seen it yet? I'm going tomorrow.
What are your thoughts on it (particularly if you're familiar with the book)?

Just saw it and will post my review shortly in the “Film Fans - Greatest Movies” thread here inThe Paddock. In sum, I really liked it. Very ambitious..Anyone seen it yet? I'm going tomorrow.

Yea that is true. But it’s pretty much inevitable that they will do it.Did I read they haven't even gotten a green light for Dune part 2?
If so, that sucks.
Yea but gonna take at least what, 3 years before it hits the big screen? Ugh.Yea that is true. But it’s pretty much inevitable that they will do it.

I watched it on HBOMax at 3am Friday morning as that's when they are released. I prefer the Kyle McGloughlin original as I just can't stand Jason Mo-bambi. The two-part crap was very disappointing and came just as the movie got better when bambi died.Anyone seen it yet? I'm going tomorrow.

Thank you, GlennI watched it on HBOMax at 3am Friday morning as that's when they are released. I prefer the Kyle McGloughlin original as I just can't stand Jason Mo-bambi. The two-part crap was very disappointing and came just as the movie got better when bambi died.
ala Lord of the Rings style. Would’ve been nice if that lined up, but looks like not. Will probably have to wait close to 3 years if they aren’t already well underway. Warner Bros. really mishandled the Justice League franchise so hopefully they get this right.I’m not sure why they wouldn’t just film it all at the same time and release year after year.
Blade Runner is on my list to see. Really liked Arrival. It was an okay movie. Like, yeah, I saw it but I will never watch it again. It's not rewatchable. There arent any memorable scenes that anyone will be watching on youtube for years to come. For all the ish he talked about Star Wars and the MCU, he didn't come up with one scene that will be rewatched for years to come. It's a long, boring, unremarkable movie. Blade Runner 2049 is his best movie. It's so underrated. This is probably his worst movie. I heard several people exiting my showing say it was the worst movie they've ever seen. One couple walked out and met their friends at the door when it ended. Now, I know this movie wasn't made for those people to begin with. But, he's trying to capture that audience and he can't do it because he's not that kind of filmmaker with that kind of script. the kind that draws a larger, more commercial audience.
The thought did cross my mind though while watching it.... I haven't read the books. But, I wondered during my showing if people who actually read the books we're loving it or if it lived up to their expectations. It felt like a movie made for fans of the book only.
It's a waste. Basically a "to be continued" without a promise for a conclusion. If you have hbomax just watch it there.Anyone seen it yet? I'm going tomorrow.

His Bladerunner was terrible. Yikes. Is this going to suck even worse?
I thought the first half, which felt like a continuation of the original, was really well done. The second half felt like they were trying to build a new Matrixy franchise and like a completely separate product. The original is my all time favorite movie so I’m no where near unbiased but I did not dig it. Excited still to see Dune. Visually what I’ve seen so far has been really impressive. When you remake an all time classic like Bladerunner . . . there are bound to be comparisons, and most likely will not be kind to the imitator, so lets just say you must have a lot of confidence in your ability as a director.
thank the mcu... DV is one of the better directors out there. Always look forward to his movies. Now it will be 6 years, at least before we see an original movie from him.The art of filmmaking has plummeted so far that even bland unimaginative slop like this gets a sequel. The last 10-15 years has been the dark ages if you're looking for well made movies with comprehensible script writing and talented directing.
The sequel to Sicarrio began fabulously then imploded into a quasi-superhero idiocy. It was like they had a great idea then descended into paint by numbers money grabbing. If it wasn't for the Coen Brothers this whole century would be a wash.
I read it 35+ years ago. Only remember a bit. But, I know you have to trudge through that first 1/4, as Herbert just kind of assumes you know what he is talking about. Then, the book explodes and is one of the best sci-fi books I have read.I enjoy science fiction. But I remember trying to read Dune years ago and thought it was the most incomprehensible convoluted book I ever tried to read maybe got through 25% of it. Was like Game of Thrones all jammed into one book. Sorry, it just wasn't my cup of tea
Arrival was beautiful. Really enjoyed the Blade Runner sequel. Have seen it a couple of times.Blade Runner is on my list to see. Really liked Arrival.
Not a remake, but a sequel. When you remake an all time classic like Bladerunner . . . there are bound to be comparisons, and most likely will not be kind to the imitator, so lets just say you must have a lot of confidence in your ability as a director.
No way, Dune is not a movie you should watch on the small screen. It's a waste. Basically a "to be continued" without a promise for a conclusion. If you have hbomax just watch it there.
