The original film was awful. It made zero sense, was poorly edited and the acting was terrible. But something drew us to it to watch it over and over..

IMHO the three-hour fan edit vastly improves upon Lynch's version. It's still far from perfect, but to me it's more entertaining than Villenueve's version.

Watched it on HBO. Glad I didn’t waste $$ going out to see it.

Perhaps because IT HAD AN ENDING. No matter how badly it was presented.

This version was MUCH better acted, made a bit more sense and not surprisingly, the s/fx were better. But it’s not worth waiting 2 years to see the rest of it. More Hollywood stupidity.
Buddy this is only part 1. Did no one pay attention to the title screen?

Mo-bambie smiling and touching his sword to his forhead as he goes off to die heroically for absolutely no reason was like the baby talk to the snake monsters in Prometheus, the movie died right there along with Mo-bambie and his sliding on his knees TV movie stupid fight scene.

I swear he had to think the movie was a joke. Not a SINGLE line of his is delivered with any real emotion or depth. Maybe too much was filmed in front of a green screen for him to take it seriously, but he is tougher to watch than about any other big money actor right now. I'd rather have had The Rock play that part.

I kept waiting for JM to have someone put his hair up in a manbun. He seemed more like his character in the commercial where he takes his arms off

I don't know what you expect a movie to be when a former basketball player is directing it.

Watched it on HBO and it’s better than I expected. I’ve seen the original and read the book but it’s been so long ago that I didn’t keep making comparisons. I’m also ok with making it in two parts because there’s no way to do that kind of story in one film. I’ll give it a solid 8.5 of 10.
I do have one complaint, and it goes for every futuristic sci-fi story ever: if you create a technologically advanced world, why do they still sword fight??? They can fly around and have electronic body armor, but they’re fighting with pointy metal swords. Really? I’m putting Star Wars in this too, just because it glows doesn’t mean it’s not just a sword.

Maybe they thought Alec Baldwin would be part of the cast?

The shields protected, I believe, the fighter from projectile weapons. You have to get close and then use your weapon at the right speed to penetrate the shield.

They partly explain the sword fighting in the movie. The shield reacts so violently to laser guns that it creates a nuclear explosion.

Thanks. I’ll have to look for that. I had a difficult time hearing dialogue, especially Chalamet. Newer movies I’ve watched on Amazon and HBO have had the sound levels like you would hear in the theater and that doesn’t work well on my 10 year old bedroom tv. I’ve had to watch some with subtitles on because the voices were so low.
