That game was a circus. Phantom home runs, umps selling out on strike zones, missed balks, rain delays, and Fox giving KC the pennant in the 7th. Congrats KC.

Great as Bautista was at the plate tonight, he made a bad, bad play on that go-ahead run. You can't heave the ball toward second base with Lorenzo Cain on his way to third.

You would have gunned him down at the plate...

Just think the Wil Myers, James Shields trade. Wade Davis was just thrown in there. Tampa wanted Royals prospect pitcher with Myers.

I was yelling at Yost to get Wade in there for Bautista, and he didn't of course and B did what he does, then when the rain came I really thought Yost had screwed the pooch as I was unsure Wade would go back in and I'm thinking extra innings and do the Royals have enough arms, etc. Turns out Yost was saved yet again. That guy does some weird stuff in the playoffs, but his team is so good they bail him out.

Huh????

Bautista should have thrown to the cutoff man - who was positioned down the first-base line. Then the 3B coach doesn't even send Cain home. He would have been on third with nobody out, so he probably scores anyway. But there's no way you can allow him to score on that play.

Great hustle by Cain and a good call by the 3B coach, but they capitalized on a bad play by Bautista. Did this observation offend you somehow?

3rd base and no outs? Never a doubt. The "Wil Myers" trade is no longer the "James Shields" trade. It has been the "Wade Davis" trade for about 2 years.
True to some degree, but don't understimate what Shields did for the Royals. Two years of 225+ innings with a 3-ish ERA. There are a lot of other factors behind the Royals' turnaround, but his performance was a big part of it.

The biggest thing Shields did for this team was to instill an attitude with the pitching staff. These guys had the stuff, but needed a leader to push them and I really think Shields did. I will forever be grateful to him for what he did in his short time with KC.

They interviewed Jirshcele after the game and he said that they noticed that Bautista would blindly throw the ball to second on a hit down the line and that Cain read it perfectly and busted it from the beginning and that was their chance to take advantage of it.

Absolutely. First base coach Rusty Kuntz said as much when interviewed. Said that was no mistake and knew Bautista would do what he did.

Yes I saw that discussion this morning, and that's great advance scouting by the Royals. But Bautista still has to be more aware of the situation at hand. With your season on the line and about 90 percent chance that the next run wins the game, Hosmer taking second base is the least of your worries. Hit the cutoff man.
