Seems smart to me after reading the article. Close the ones not making the profit, and open an even larger number in locations that you think will do so this year.

In the meantime my county of 125,000 is about to get their third damn Wal-Mart.

I live in Wilson County, TN, and mine has 113000+ and only growing with Mt. Juliet booming so I'm sure we will get a 3rd at some point as well. Right now one in Lebanon and one in Mt. Juliet, which makes sense. I get more annoyed with the absurd amount of Dollar Generals that pop up on seemingly every street corner wherever I go. They are worse than McDonalds.

Think of all the "mom and pop" local businesses that are just sure to return in the vacuum Walmart leaves behind. So beneficial for the local economies and small businesses!

More importantly - does anyone know how this will impact the internet phenomenon known as "People of Walmart"?

I like to pay for overpriced commodities because I support "local businesses."

F*!k wal-mart!

I'd rather have a target, or big-lots on every damn corner than have to shop in those pathetic stores.

If you shop at Walmart, you're not a good person. Simple as that.

Controversial take from a long-time Walmart hater: I took a good five years off from Walmart because of how low-class that place had become. I'm not talking low-class in the "I'm better than the people who shop there" sense, but this "cut any and all costs at the expense of customer experience" thought process which came directly from the corporate leadership. But Walmart has taken significant initiatives to improve shopper experience - at least at some of the better stores. There merchandise has gotten better, and you can get in and out of there faster than ever. For this I say I now occasionally shop at Walmart.

I have a theory. Walmart is one of the biggest sources of negative energy. No one shopping in Walmart is happy. Either ready to fight or cuss you. Even the people working there aren't happy. No one is happy in that place. I think China is manufacturing negative energy at low end cost and it's getting passed on to the consumers and workers at Walmart.

LOL @ the Walmart bashers. No one forces you to shop there. If you want to pay higher prices, knock yourself out.

Lower prices at Wal-Mart is an absolute myth. I'm sure at one time years ago their prices beat everyone, but not today. There are so many other ways of getting what you need, and Wal-Mart can't compete. They have an image problem, that they have created as well.

When I price compare with Kroger and Food Lion (which si all that's available where I live) on name brand products, well over 90% of the time Walmart is cheaper

They're closing 115 Wal-Marts in Latin America and all 102 Wal-Mart Express' (a fail convenience store style Wal-Mart). So basically they're really only closing 52 real Wal-Marts.

I usually only go to my Walmart once or twice a month at most. Mostly for meds. And I never see anyone like the people in those pictures. The Middletown store is pretty clean and nice.

I don't know if you've ever been to Blount County but there's basically only two cities of any significant size. Those two cities are Maryville and Alcoa. They are actually sister cities and are side by side. So you could actually leave Maryville and be in Alcoa and not even realize it. All three of the Walmarts will either be in Alcoa or Maryville. They will probably be no more than 10 miles away from one another. Unfortunately the new one being built is also going to make it impossible for the drive-in theater in town to continue to operate because the lights will interrupt the movie showings.

You have all those open self-checkouts.
If they want me to use those then I should get a discount for doing the work myself.

It's funny the people that hold up Costco ad being great for the employee and Walmart being bad for the employee. Costco pays a higher wage, but also have a lot fewer employees per store and demand greater production out of each employee or they no longer work there. The Walmart folks wanting a raise also have to anticipate doing more for that higher wage.

That's 269 buildings that will sit empty for decades because they won't lease/sell to anyone who sells even one thing they do.

I guess the Waltons must be going broke. Must've only made few billion this year. Porch light on. Prayers sent.

Those 269 stores could be converted to retail ***** houses. Get your dick sucked in Hardware. Hand jobs in electronics. Go anal in frozen meats. ****, even start up strip clubs in health/beauty, kids clothing, and lawn gardening. Profit son...

Willy with the business plan of the century. Just gotta make sure that there is no employee carry over from the Wal Mart employees to the new business. Major buzz kill for the new clientele right there. Gotta have all new employees. Put that ish in the contract on page 1, paragraph 1.

Still [laughing] at "Go anal in frozen meats."

Shark Tank, willy. Take this idea to Shark Tank. Oh sure, they'll reject the idea on air for sure. No doubt. FCC restrictions and what not and so forth.

But after the show? Off air? Those greedy bastiches will be fighting MMA style with one another to see who wins the chance to sign a contract with you.
