I am not advocating for Beamer to be fired, though it wouldn’t really bother me one way or the other. What I do want is a serious head coach. One who can at least identify problems.

we have had more or less systemic problems on offense since Beamer arrived. Save for a handful games last year and the infamous Tennessee game, the offense has never really accomplished much since hhe has been here. On top of that, he has proven incapable of identifying OC talent. He is already on his third and has thus far failed to identify and hire even one candidate for OC who even won other P4 program in the country would be interested in that coach in the same capacity.

Even worse, he has doggedly retained maybe the worst OL coach in the entire country for the last two seasons. He could’ve been canned after season one for as bad as the OL was. He unquestionably should’ve been fired after season two. That he is still here is the greatest indictment against Beamer ability to function as a head coach. By all accounts, objectively, our OL is a disaster. That was the consensus last year. And the year before that. I don’t know if Beemer thinks he is just smarter than everybody else or what, but it is a travesty that this season may be derailed in large part because of a Known and fixable problem.

Head Football Coach is a tough job here. I'm not saying that they had consistent success from year-to-year, BUT: our best and most successful Head Football Coaches here ALL had PRIOR Successful Head Coaching experience at the FBS level (Dietzel, Carlen, Morrison, Holtz and Spurrier.) Why we did not follow THAT path by hiring a YOUNG, SUCCESSFUL Head Coach from a lower tier FBS school, is perplexing to me. Why Tanner let former players convince him who to hire and, why he let a candidate who can BS and smooth through a job interview, confirm to him what the former players said, was a HUGE mistake.

Ray Tanner weakened the baseball program when he left and weakened the ad chair when he took the position. Undid his previous legacy by being a damn disaster as AD.

Agree with all of this except Dietzel. That was an era where football wasn’t as important to most schools. But as for now - that was one of the biggest reasons I didn’t want Beamer (no record of that here I wasn’t using GC at the time). This isn’t to say that a guy with previous hc experience will succeed but so far that is the only route that has come close to sustained success.

I agree with what you guys are saying, but at the same time, it feels like Shane is getting fed up with Teasley as well. At least, it seems like it you read between the lines. This is the first press conference I've ever heard him really be openly critical of the a position group. Maybe he'll make the changes, at least internally.

And he’s only on his 3rd OC because other dingdongs in other places inexplicably hired them away. I don’t believe he would have let either go.

As I said before, I went to my first Carolina football game on November 2, 1963. Our pee wee football coaches took us to Columbia to watch Carolina play Tulane, as a reward. The Green Wave came into that game with the longest losing streak in the nation. As an 11 year-old, even though the stadium held only 30,000 at the time, I remember it looking enormous to me. Tulane beat us 20-7. Maybe football was not important back then, but I'm still ticked off losing to the Green Wave in my first Carolina football game. I want a rematch with Tulane before I take the exit ramp in this road trip called "life on earth". I want revenge before taking that exit ramp ;) . By the way, maybe I should have taken the hint about being a Gamecock football fan from that game. ;)Regardless, I don't regret getting both an undergraduate and graduate degree from Carolina.

You mean like Will Muschamp?

Sure - Let's take a team which averages 18-22th in recruiting rank each year and play smash-mouth football with the rest of the SEC.

That should work out well.

Someone mentioned the OL coach came from some small Tennessee school. So we can probably assume no one hardly knew or even coveted the guy. I'm okay with giving guys a chance (big promotion and raise-Shane knows the feeling) but sometimes that can turn out to be an easy, lazy hire that creates bigger issues.

The harsh reality is successful current FBS head coaches at P4 programs are not going to want to come to South Carolina. There is no tradition of winning, the school is in a state with a small population surrounded by more prominent programs and an in state rival that is a successful nationally known program. SC is a difficult team to recruit to compared to its rivals and neighbors. The alumni base is not extremely wealthy and the athletic program, while not poor, can't buy talent or buy a coach and staff away from a top program.

Carolina is a good stepping stone job for a young FCS or lower tier FBS coach with a winning record who wants to break into a P4 career. The worst mistake would be to hire another retread old man whose ego won't let him admit he needs to retire.

At the end of Muschamp's tenure, fans were complaining about, among other things, an inability to run the ball/OL issues and poor tackling. What's plaguing the team right now? Inability to run the ball/OL issues and poor tackling.

I can somewhat give him a pass for being totally incapable of identifying a good OC. However, it's coaching malpractice that Teasley is still employed here. The OL was bad in Teasley's first season, has gotten progressively worse each season and is getting worse as this season goes on.

Lol. I remember reading that post. I didn’t know about that game and it’s context yet not surprised in the least. But I would really like to be surprised by such news.

I didn’t know until someone on here informed me that Satterfield recommended him. Satt was an hc for a while at Tenn Tech, Teasley coached for him there.

Matt Campbell’s name used to come up alot among fans as a potential hire. Never made sense to me because why would he leave a place he’s building and having some success to come try to establish something here?

Most answers were that SC would throw more money at him than Iowa St would. Maybe, I don’t know. I think, financially, they could try to lure someone away from another P4 program but don’t ever attempt to. We all know they got no problem overpaying once a coach arrives.

But I agree that a coach from the lower ranks would be much more realistic. Yet for some reason this place seems to not seriously consider those guys except for Billy Napier.
