looking at the thread title I honestly thought this was going to be a political thread.

It’s essential that he do this; IMO, the d-tackles often are the difference between a legitimate contender and a pretender.
This is true. IMO, the two biggest recruiting misses of the Franklin era were Christian Wilkins and Justin Fields. Wilkins would have been the game changing DT that PSU was lacking.

CMC has addressed my biggest complaint about Franklin's teams. He is aggressively bringing in true fire hydrants to stop the inside run. Next step is to get physical mobile ones that can disrupt the LOS allowing the DE's to clean up.
This was the case ever since Sean Spencer who preferred using a fleet of light guys (6-8 in rotation) who would be fresh as the game went on. And it sort of worked until it didn’t against the big guys. When he left, Franklin never seemed to change from it but also never quite had a fleet. It seemed to drift down to same size but 4 in rotation and that doesn’t work.

imagine for a minute, Zane Durant with 3-4 315 lb’er rotating next to him. That could have been crazy good.

I agree. Durant was a beast last year with Carter commanding double teams. Perhaps he gets drafted as a DE on a 3-4 team?

UGA probably wouldn’t have won their NCs in 2021 and 2022 without all of their great d-linemen, despite having a talent advantage at most other positions.

Spencer has resurfaced at V.T.

Wardaddy makes me think of the movie Fury. Brad Pitt's character was nicknamed Wardaddy in Fury. I love that movie. Original Tiger tank #131 is seen in the movie. Last shootout was loosely based on the heroism of Audie Murphy.

Apologize to the original poster -- but -- 'Fury' is one of the greatest anti-war movies, ever .... as War does terrible things to 'people'.

Wasn't that Franklin's philosophy, more "speed" - which typically comes at the expense of "stoutness?"

Franklin not having strong enough football principles and sticking with them through coordinators was his ultimate downfall.

the D was havoc oriented and successful from Pry to Diaz to Allen (who sucked). The switch to Knowles and his read & react except when I blitz from
Center field scheme torpedoed everything incl. UCLA and NW where guys were confused and totally miscast in their roles.

Any system can work but you gotta be all in and have players that match the scheme.

Cignetti - He looks at Ht, Wt. and speed in general, but not sold on athletic freaks. Seems like he is focused on hip, knee, ankle mobility, and the abiliity to bend. Never heard anyone mention that before as a evaluation tool. One other thing is production over potential. Loves a guy with 20-30 games experience. In that regard, it seems CMC choosing Rocco was the way to go.
WSJ-
“You will see that we’re not the biggest team, we’re not the biggest group of guys,” said Nick Kidwell, who played for Cignetti at James Madison and Indiana. “We’re not the tallest, we’re not the heaviest.”

But they might just be the most limber. If there’s one quality that Cignetti prizes above almost all others when sizing up a potential recruit, it’s hip, knee and ankle mobility. He believes that everything about how football is played stems from how the guys in the pads carry their enormous frames around the field.

“It’s a game of speed, quickness and explosive power,” Cignetti said before the Rose Bowl. “You need those things to generate that.”
ESPN interviewer elaborates with similar word bites-
