I am excited about those 2 as pass rushers. I am starting to see why alot of the Big Dawgs came in late and trying to get Allen to flip etc... I think we can build from that performance. IN Jones we are getting some Nice D speed. If someway we can get some D tackle depth to build around thos few players. JONES I absolutely love watching him play. My question Is why do you think Kash isn't getting a Look at playing time? I know he can bring more intensity and insticts then Love. Also Kengra, did he play? I am still boggled about that one. Anyone have any solid info on Kengra Daniels ?I've been looking forward to him playing ever since he commited? Well we have some building blocks on D its seems.

Yeah I know Eliot had Ware dropping back in a soft zone alot last year drove me nuts. He does his damage up near the Line on pass rush. Allen and Ware are starting to become a nice pass rush duo.

These are scheme issues, and the differences we saw last night can probably be attributed to Stoops calling the shots instead of Eliot. That cannot be good news for Eliot's future.
I saw eliot make comments after the game saying the game was called the same way as the past 3 games. Hes full of **** lol. You'd have to be blind to not see the changes on D last night. The blitzing was maybe the best of the Stoops era.

He isn't using his safeties in blitz packages yet. That is apparently being saved for later.

Last night proved that there is talent on our defense. They've just been used horribly by Eliot.
Of course there is talent on our defense. Did anyone suggest otherwise? Against an SEC schedule, you must be able to stop the run and produce a pass rush. We did a pretty good job yesterday, but South Carolina isn't as good as Southern Miss. Southern Miss has a star senior quarterback, a couple of good running backs, and a veteran offensive line. We don't have enough numbers and experience in our front 7 to stop the run against Florida, Alabama, Tennessee. I don't think Eliot is a very good coordinator, but no defensive coordinator will be able to stop Florida or Alabama with our current defensive line roster.

Well there were folks saying Stoops recruiting has not been that good and even on defense. So yes some people acted like there wasn't really talent on defense. Last night proved that recruiting was not the problem, which should have been obvious anyway.

UK has a much better edge pass rush in Ware/Allen this year for sure. When we get teams in passing downs...we have two nice edge rushers and decent coverage secondary.

I'm hoping Kenegra Daniel being back will help even a little bit more

Re Ware/Allen, don't forget too they're really high on Bonner. Allen's improved but still needs to work on his strength, sometimes struggles getting off blocks.

WHat is Kenegra Daniel Like? What is his strength? Is HE more of a tackle or End? Can he play the Hybrid End/Backer position. I have not seen any film on him. Only thing Ive seen is an interview with him and he looks athletic. Can someone share their thoughts on him. He seems to be the most mysterious player we have. Also whats up with Eli Brown I was pumoed on him and cant remember whats up with him. I thought he was a stud coming out of highschool. Wasnt he ranked higher then Kash out of highschool? I know he was in different class but I cant remember him playing as of now.

- Kenegra Daniel plays the DE (same spot that Alvonte Bell is at ) I think. Kenegra looked like he needed some strength and was not playing fast last year...but I think he could at least be a great depth at DE if not vie for starting spot by end of year.
- Eli Brown is in a tough spot as he's backing up Jordan Jones...and that guy can't come off the field.
- I agree on Bonner...I hope he gives us a 3rd pass rusher by mid season to compliment Ware/Allen.

UK has more weapons on defense than I think we've given them credit for. We're a bit of a mess at DT/NG for now but let's hope Middleton/Pringle/Dubose can gel (I've given up on Elam for the most part).

Makes sense and got to ask you this cause you seem to k ow what your talking about. Can we sit Elam Plug in Kengera and Sit Love plug in Eli, and Kash? USE kash on Running downs and Eli on Passing Downs? Is that an option? There has got to be a better combo to get Elam off the field IMO.

Don't blame you re Elam but give the guy credit. On their last 4th down play he bulled his man and actually got a piece of the sack. But right now I'm just hoping he can provide some depth.

- Kenegra isn't going to be replacing Elam as much as Pringle/Middleton/Dubose will be as we play more 4-3 looks vs. the 3-4 (where Elam plays NG). I think at best Kenegra can give us a look at the DE spot with Bell. And if we can get teams to passing downs (which I think is the key for defense is to not allow teams to hammer at us with run game)....Kenegra can play inside with Bell and Ware/Allen off the edges...that is a really potent group to get to the passer if it can pan out. IF you count the snaps...I'll bet Elam is down to less than 20% of defensive snaps a game now..he's basically been passed up on depth chart on run downs...and he's never been part of passing down packages under Stoops.

- Really Eli has only plugged at the WLB and not the MLB spot. Right now to get Love off the field it's Kash or Frios to play the MLB spot. Kash did play some snaps in first half...so I think you'll see staff working him to take Love's spot as he gets used to speed of college game. I personally think Kash will be ready to play before Eli will for this year....I like Eli backing up Jones at WLB and think Kash takes more snaps as year progresses.

The one guy that is getting no mention of his subpar play is Westry to me. He's been really down vs. what his expectations were. THe lone USC TD was Westry doing his typical scared to stick his nose in there on the run game baloney. I think Baity is our best CB personally. Chris needs to step it up and will be tested by Ridley next week.

K, on their TD looked to me as if Ware crashed inside and Love couldn't get off the block to make a play. Maybe I misread it. Understand what you mean re Westry/run but looked like they threw away from him most of the night.

Does Elams PT go down more after Kengera comes back?

Buck sweep to the boundary and CB must stick his face in the fan. Westry is not going to do that, so don't make him the force player.

Tbey were not tbrowing to Westrys side but hope that comes into our benefit cause Baity to me looks like his is improving. I like Baity as a tackler better then Westry and agree do not think Westry is a sure tackler.

But on the play in question...the WR blocked down on our safety on that play leaving Westry unblocked on a sweep to his side....he needs to stick his nose in there and force it back inside or make the tackle himself (which Baity has no problem doing). Also...you can see Westry has been giving 10 yards cushion in front of him a ton this year and giving up throws short of him.

For a guy that so many proclaimed has NFL written all over him...he's not impacting a game like a NFL guy.

@K_TIME agree, but he is not that type of player, and is one of the reasons for our poor run D. Most of the yards gained last night were on the perimeter. Dline gets criticized but the alley and force players have been more problematic.

Om confused on that big cushion he gives as well. I thought all off season Stoops was talking all this press corner coverage leaving recievers on an Island cause they are so good. I agree with the poster said teams are not throwing his way much but yet he needs to be more impactful on the edge runs. The way Stoops has him lined up dont make sense to me.

Westry shuts off a whole side of the field and he looked plenty physical slamming usc stud te into the ground and on the blitz

Yea he's quite pathetic. We ran the same scheme but this time we allowed 40 less points and didn't give up 50. We had a lot of movement around the LOS moving bodies around in turn confusing the OL and creating pressure, other times our DE's just did a damn good job at jumping the snap. The scheme we used last night was completely different from the first 3 games. Elliot is a sorry excuse for a DC and considering how inept and awful stoops has been and the fact he's willing to bring such terrible DC's along with him, he might as well coach one side of the ball full time in the remaining time he has here. I mean why not? Do something to give your team a better shot at winning since he's pretty mfin failed on every aspect of the game. He needs to try and at least earn some of the buyout money he's going to get when fired after next season (we'll win 4-5 games this season, same with next season as well, so obviously he needs to fired we just have to wait til after next season because MB is a freaking bafoon)

First half Ware kept getting lured to bite inside too much and he was getting blocked inward on the sweep. Good correction by d in the second half.
