Clearly, the answer is yes. Are you thinking that NU played in completely empty arenas at that time? Granted, the war had an effect, but people still attended games.

Lol. I was posing the question to people who read this board.

Ah, I see. Your question was sort of a test to see if posters on this board are aware that fans attended games in 1943.

I can understand where you're coming from. This isn't exactly a collection of the best and brightest. I'll look forward to seeing how people respond.

Lol, well I do believe the games were at Evanston Twonship High School that year. So fans may have indeed have been few and far between...

I think the war would have had a really big effect. OTOH hand people were looking for a distraction too. I'd bet student numbers would have been few.

I don't go back to '43 but I was around in 1966 when a team with Jim Burns and Ron Kozlicki won five straight Big Ten games and led the league into February before collapsing down the stretch. Ironically, had we won the league that year, we would have been playing in the Mideast Regional as it was called then (only 32 teams then and Big Ten champ only qualified) at McGaw Hall on our HOME FLOOR. NU hosted many NCAA tournament games in the 50s and 60s including of course the 1956 Final Four but '66 would be the last year for that as many bigger arenas had come on the scene by then.
