What a perfect location for the state final games.
I mean ISU was always pretty ideal even before the renovations to Hancock Stadium but now? Even better.
The new addition that used to be the visitor side isn't real fancy but offers just a ton of good seating, plenty of concourse space and concessions. The seating area is also just well designed and the sight lines are terrific.
Pretty sure we still have several years left on the current deal between Illinois and NIU....and I personally like both Illinois and NIU as hosts....but since IHSA offices are located with ISU in town I can't see ISU at least getting a share of the state final games next time around.
I've said this for years that one of the biggest mistakes ISU made was letting go of the state final games. I know that the potential of hosting of FCS playoff games was an issue years ago for ISU and that's why they let the IHSA games leave back then....but they can certainly work out a deal and share hosting duties with another location or just agree to not host the FCS games.
I can't see the IHSA state final games not outdrawing the ISU FCS games...plus I'm guessing the local area benefits more from the IHSA games (more out of the area fans spending out of the area $$$ in hotels etc).
