Was there no game plan or strategy to slow down Clark?

Yes, she is damn good, no doubt. She accounted for 53% of Iowa's total points and she scored or assisted with every single point in the 4th quarter. It's upsetting to see that 36-0 record go down the tubes.

I wasn't unhappy with the defense. We held Iowa 10 points under their average.

We lost due to "slow starts" at the beginning of each half. It's been an issue all season.

I think right now, Caitlin Clark is in a zone. We were smothering her over and over again, but if she saw even a little crease, she would zing a pass, or sprint by a defender, or god forbid, back up 5 steps and THEN shoot a three. I compare it to the way Steph Curry can take over a game and there is nothing the other team can do. (Women’s BB haters, I am not saying she’s as good as Steph). I can’t believe how quick her decision making process is. And she’s got the shots to back it up. Those last four free throws would probably look like one shot if they were laid on top of each other. A pure stroke.

I saw one of our posters in another thread say “we should have planned to never let her take a three point shot”. Tell me you don’t know anything about basketball without telling me…

Anyway…

Now that we are out, she’s going to be fun to watch on Sunday.

I would love to ask her what her mental state is during a game. It really does appear as if she was "in a zone" for the entire game against us. It is a real phenomenon and one is very much aware that you have achieved that state and you will never forget having been there. It normally doesn't last for extended periods but maybe she is an exception.....

I have seen some people on here compare Clark to Pistol Pete but really she has a lot of Stephen Curry similarities in her game at this college point in their careers, no body could stop him in the tourney either, just the rest of his team sucked more then Iowa's, LOL.

She was a great player who played great on the big stage with the crowd behind her.

Hard to stop

Due to some of the starters not being our best players for a given matchup. Playing a certain player against Iowa because they are good on defense is useless. They will score anyway. When they miss get the rebound. Start your best offensive players because you have to outscore them.

Dawn needs to recruit some outside shooters, that will open up the inside game.

I don’t think defense was the issue. Iowa was 307th in scoring D. And we struggled offensively. They packed the paint in D and just dared our guards to shoot outside. That was the difference. And officiating hurt us as well. I’m not saying that’s why we lost. But we play physical, and the refs took that away very early.

If we had two guards that could shoot from 15+, we win that game. Defense left something to be desired but with a couple shooters, we win regardless.

It's only one factor but 14 - 14 vs our 9 - 13 on FTs really hurt. We missed a few big ones down the stretch and Iowa was perfect.

I wasn't surprised to see Iowa score a bunch of points because that's what they do. My disappointments came on the offensive end. In game adjustments, substitutions, and execution were just plain poor. Maybe our worst performance of the year.

Her athleticism looked off the charts.

Apparently the best way to keep her from scoring is to give her a cheap 4th foul technical in the national championship game. It’s all about me, said the ref

And Kim Mulkey literally pushed a ref during play. Smh

Low IQ thug got a stupid technical. Turning point in the game. Iowa had LSU on the ropes. Clark cost her team the game!

Funny how Reese was looking at Clark and pointing to her ring finger. I think LSU definitely acted on Clark’s disrespect towards Raven and sent Iowa home! I’m not a Mulkey fan, but at least it’s SEC and not Iowa.

Yep. Flashed the "no ring" in her face as the clock ran down.
