wife and I watched marathon of 1980's and early 90's comedies - Gene Wilder, Billy Crystal, Gregory Hines, Richard Pryor, etc. She is a big FB fan and gets borderline psycho during some games. She said these old movies reminded her of the good old days of Penn State FB - rattles of players from the past (and #'s). She said comparing to the game today and its trends that she does not like, the old days were so much better. She also mentioned the music in the movies compared to today was so much smoother and less chaotic that today's music.

of course all us older folks will remember the past as so much better than the current state.

We very rarely go to the movies or watch newer movies anymore. They lack the creativity, imagination, and story lines of their predecessors. I think you can chalk that up to most of the people in the movie business having those jobs/opportunities as a result of their connections and/or lineage. They simply rely way too much on newer tech to "create" verses coming up with new ideas and real creativity.

It seems that their most successful approach these days is to recycle old movies with new technology and updated for current trends. That really doesn't take much talent. And for comedies, they simply aren't allowed to be as funny as older movies that are now deemed to be offensive. Everyone is offended at something these days and politically it isn't acceptable to go there.

I tend to follow specific directors, like Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson (not a fan exactly, but he’s always interesting), Richard Linklater, Debra Granik, Alexander Payne. Some actors, Emma Stone for example, always seem to find themselves in interesting movies.

wife and I watched marathon of 1980's and early 90's comedies - Gene Wilder, Billy Crystal, Gregory Hines, Richard Pryor, etc.

I enjoy watching those movies on Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST-3000) if you get it. They have their own channel on Pluto TV.

the real entertainment these days is on the streaming services. There are lots of good series including Ozark, Your Honor, Hijack, The Morning Show, Ted Lasso, The Queen's Gambit, Chernobyl, The Crown, Grace and Frankie, Succession, The Last of Us, Poker Face, and several more.

I would say the same and agree; plenty of interesting, original work out there if you’re willing to look for it. And definitely look abroad - great stuff from Japan, France, and Korea (amongst others).

Yeah, he mentioned "The Sure Thing." It's far from a great movie, but it's very wise and honest, with three or four really great set pieces, totally hooks you.

For me, TCM is a constant. Every week you have a good three or four worth a DVR. I mean, I saw "Altered States" the other week, first time, great acting by Hurt and Blair Brown is freaking gorgeous, good grief. Flag away.
