Watched the 2007 Outback Bowl vs Vols yesterday. Stout D with Poz, Connor, and Sean Lee at lb. Stat mentioned before start was the PS D had only given up 2 TDS in the previous 22 quarters they played. 5 1/2 games. Pretty amazing. That game they beat Vols 20-10. Both ended up 9-4 and PS was ranked behind them in the post bowl polls.

I've been watching games from the 1994 season. That team was an offensive juggernaut.
Arguably the best offense in college football history up to that time. Perfectly balanced and loaded with future pros. I am still convinced they didn't share the Natty because the Big 10 had not agreed to the playoff at that time...that and the jealousy factor within the Big 10 of a new team crushing their conference. If I remember correctly, after Penn State stomped Ohio State, several of the Ohio voters switched their AP votes to Nebraska.

I have a game memory from when I was a kid that maybe someone can help with. We were at Notre Dame, deep in our own end, 3rd and long, and Joe quick ran the punt team out before ND had time to get theirs out. Someone went back to field it, muffed it, and we recovered. Was that 86, 88, or 90?

Watched the 1981 game at Nebraska. PS was ranked 3 but the underdog. Curt Warner ran for over 230 yards and Franco was 5/5 on fgs. Blackledge was QB. Turner Gill started at QB for Nebraska but got yanked in the second half. Roger Craig was at rb and rushed for over 100. First Paterno win over Osborne. 30-24. Nebraska KO guy kicked straight on. When kick went OOB they rekicked after a 5 yard penalty. No getting it at the 35.

I loved that game. Iirc, Tony Hunt was a beast and sealed the game at the end in the 4min offense.

that '81 team was under appreciated and IMO might have been better, overall, than the '82 team.
My favorite OL is ‘81, by a mile. Maybe that’s the reason 1981 is my favorite team.

I’m odd that way, might be a character flaw, dunno. My favorite Georgetown team is 1980, Final 8, pre Ewing.

Answering my own question, this happened in the famous bitter cold home game in ’87. For some reason I thought it was in South Bend.

In the first period, while Brown was still on the sideline, Paterno ordered Penn State to quick-kick on third down. Notre Dame safety Brandy Wells had to drop back to field it--and he fumbled it away at the Irish 19. Two plays later, Penn State scored.

I had coffee on Tuesday morning with my "Iowa mug". Got it from Shutterfly--it has a picture of the winning TD with 4 seconds left I took from my seat on the side of that endzone.
Was there too. Amazing finish. That place got quiet real fast. It was stinking hot that night.

Was at that game - fun time !

Vols fans were a cranky bunch - even before they lost.

Credit to Iowa's game day staff--they gave out free water to everyone. Though it got better after the sun went down. We were going to walk down into town and got as far as the river and gave up. Too hot.

They won the NYT poll…just as good as others as was not decided on field.

Just rewatched the 1981 Fiesta Bowl. The first of 4 Fiestas I’ve been to. Seven turnovers. Four by USC. Only second meeting between PSU and USC. Rained most of the game (in the desert no less). Warner out rushed Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Allen by quite a bit. There have been many bowl games where PSU beat the Heisman Trophy winner. Game should have been more of a blowout. Brian Franco missed 2 fgs (37 and 38 yards) and PSU had the clock run out just before halftime as Blackledge was stopped on a keeper.

The 2006 and 2007 teams were a little frustrating. Great defense at times. I think Poz, Connor, and Lee were the best three LBs on the field at the same time ever ant PSU. Although, LaVar, Short, and Morrison were pretty good, as well. The 06 and 07 teams struggled to find any offense against ranked teams. The 07 Michigan game was especially frustrating as senior QB Morelli led PSU was only able to manage 3 FGs and lost to Michigan Fr QB Ryan Mallet who was filling in for injured Chad Henne. One of the more frustrating games I have ever watched. The 06 team you are referring to that beat the Vols, lost to every ranked team they played that year except the Vols in the bowl. They almost lost to unranked Minny 28-27 also.

You are correct. After the O$U beat down, the good ole boy AP voters from the traditional Big Ten areas got jealous and voted for Nebraska.

Watched the 1982 Nebraska at PSU game today. PS jumped out to a 21-7 lead. But Franco was 0/3 on fgs and Nebraska made a comeback to take the lead with less than 2 minutes left. PS drove down the field and scored right after the famous/infamous McLosky catch on the sidelines at the 2 yard line.

Franco graduated. Massimo Manca?
