Hey buddy, I noted the Crazies get a bad name. And I know the majority of UNC fans were respectful and clapped in support of 'Ques yesterday as he was helped off. This is just to prove the Nose Dome has its share of @$$hats as well....I mean not everybody in there embodies El Deano's "Carolina

Haha always hart, can't stand a tar heel, especially not the way they've acted this year, with the t-shirts celebrating Zion's injury and them just acting pompous and crap over their wins over a depleted Duke team. Hell, they even cut down the nets tonight, which is something that is normally reserved for ya know, the tourneys. Oh well. We'll get em this week, in the second of 9 straight wins to #6.

Chiding a teams player is one thing, pulling for, celebrating, or making fun of injuries to a player is another. It shows that really, truly, you aren't a decent person and need help. These are kids playing a game they love, sure I stay on Luke Mayes *** but, I don't want to see him get hurt, I just want to poke fun at his game. I still remember Ware's injury in the E8 versus Louisville or Desean Butler in the FF. Both horrific injuries that any rational person would never want to happen to anyone.

Love your positive attitude sir. I thought the net cutting was a little over the top. I mean even though they tied UVA for share of regular season, Cavs beat em in nose dome in their one encounter.... OFC

It's hard not to be positive with this group. I mean, they're a great team but, they really seem like just awesome young men, which makes it so easy to want them to succeed and really heart breaking with all these injuries. Even if they don't win it all, this will always be one of my favorite teams.

They cut down the nets? They didn't win anything! The conference bylaws say the winner of the tournament is ACC champion, no mention of the regular season. And either the extreme unbalanced schedule there we are no where near true round robin...

That’s the only nets they’ll cut down this season. I’m sure they’ll hoist a banner up for this event soon.

This is dumb. There are anecdotal stories for every fan base.

Maybe so, Mpm, but I think it's pretty harmless, not like some of the vile, disgusting crap I've seen on THR. I think it's therapeutic to help vent some frustrations when you play a hated rival and both games you don't have the most dominating college player in the country, plus losing another starter in Marques for the second game.

Here's a couple more anecdotal stories that concern me, and probably has to do with how I feel about the Tar Heel fan base (not all...I have some very good UNC friends).

Feb 28, the day before my brother died, I was with him at the memory care center he was at. I was there with my youngest daughter, my wife (and it's extremely difficult for her to even get out of the house), and my nephew (my brother's oldest son). We all knew this was probably the last time we would see my brother alive (he was unresponsive by this time). I had on my Duke cap (as always), my nephew (a huge UNC fan), had on his Tar Heel hoodie. It was a somber occasion, but we shared our stories, and memories, and had some light-hearted moments. Well, in came two attendants to check and change my brother, and one of the girls (after seeing my Duke cap) immediately started in with a spirited, very animated, trash talking about Duke and how UNC kicked their ***, and how they were going to do it again the next game. My nephew (knowing that wasn't going to sit well), said 'Oh No!' Believe me, I'm a pretty easy going guy, but I won't take but only so much. My brother was deep into the dying process, and this wasn't the time or place for that kind of crap. A few years earlier I probably would have knocked the hell out of her, and took the consequences. Instead I just pointed out that when Zion returned and he had a chance to play UNC again, we'll see how well that works out for the Heels. I had a few stern words also, and it stopped.

And this is not the first time something like this has happened in a situation when a sane, decent person should know when to keep their mouth shut.
Last year in March my mother-in-law was in very bad shape, and was at a care center very near our home...less than 5 minutes away, so that I was able to take my wife to see her.
About a week or so before she died, I was walking down the hallway after visiting, and again another lady (a nurse) after seeing my Duke hat started with some over the top crap about Duke. I was cordial, but I shut it down pretty quickly. Again, time and place.

Yet another time, and inappropriate place, back over 12 years ago, I was bringing my wife home from therapy (5 or 6 months after her stroke). While walking out of the building a Tar Heel fan (had his shirt on and I had my hat on), rolled down his window of his car, gave me the finger, and like a coward sped off. My wife was using a walker and even struggling with that, and let me tell you...I couldn't leave my wife...but if I could I would have chased that SOB down and one of us would have gotten an *** beating. And 12 years ago my *** was a lot harder to beat. Again, time and place.

So, these incidents with Heel fans probably warps my sense of perspective about all their fans, but they standout so much to me that it does have an affect.

Another DSouth type post...sigh...and the ellipses police will probably show up too.

True. But c'mon, you know a large portion of the Heels fanbase says **** like this. And it's celebrating an injury, how many Duke fans do you honestly believe so that? I'm willing to bet not many. Like I said above, they literally made and sold a shirt celebrating Zion's injury, which is simply pathetic anyway you slice it. If a Duke fan outfitter did that I'd raise hell over it as well. I could tell you plenty of my own stories about Heel fans like ODD, I just don't feel like reliving them all. They take any opportunity they can get to ruin your day, and when you deal with it everyday of your life you eventually just want to snap and release some frustration.

Unless you live in the tarheel area like we do, you can't imagine what it's like. I have gone some of the same issues OAD gas to the point I where I have to be careful where I wear my Duke gear to so I don't provoke them. I fear none of them, but afraid of what I might say or do and regret later. They are a bunch that is easy to dislike and I dislike them and their arrogance to the point where i see red at times.

Out and about today, and they are out in full force. Haven’t seen this much wussie blue apparel in a long time.

Most of the time it's after they have beat us or things are going their way. Right after VT beat us
I was going out to eat with my wife and had a Duke sweat shirt on . As we were going through the door a young man who had Duke T-shirt on held the door for us. The guy behind me who I had never seen before said " ain't that sweet. Did Duke win last night? " I replied no. He then did went ha ha ha. I did good. I just kept on walking. OFC

I'm glad somebody else mentioned this. It's been this way since 1961 and clearly states the tournament champ is the ACC Champion. The funny thing is, it talks about the regular season 1st place team can have a banner saying regular season champion as long as that team knows it's never official. I've never celebrated a regular season championship and keep wonder wth announcers and some are talking about.

These sound like the same type of idiots who would console you in a personal crisis by saying things like “it could be worse” or “You’ll get over it.”. I’ve taken a lot of crisis courses for the animal crisis response group I’m in and first and foremost we learn there’s certain things you never say to someone who’s experiencing a crisis in their life. Those idiots who belittled you or your team in situations as you’ve described are classless and just plain stupid.

@OldasdirtDevil, I'm sorry you've had those experiences. I certainly am not trying to stick up for holes fans, I'm just saying that people are people - there are jerks in every bunch, regardless of we're talking about sports teams, professions, religious affiliations, political parties, etc.

Yeah, it's the old 'minor and the major' routine, Blue42. If it's affecting someone else it's minor, but if it's affecting them, it's major!
I've always thought of myself as a pretty tough person and can handle most things, but it feels like I've just been beaten down over the last year and half or so. I've definitely been slipping lately. Just got to suck it up though, too many people and animals depend on me. The pity party has to end.

Oh yeah, you're absolutely right, Mpm, no one has a monopoly on jerks. And it's not your fault I've had some bad experiences. But I've always been a believer in the Nietzsche 'That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger'...even though I've had a few doubts here and there.:D

I think all of you made it especially clear to those who live outside of NC the sheer callousness and obnoxious level of tar hole fans. The sheer veracity of a group of their fans celebrating an injury is CLEARLY not surprising. When they're together, their DESPICABLE behavior is magnified TEN FOLD.....OFC

**** all of them, I've had so many heel fans come out of from the wood works. I've even had a family member who doesn't even watch the games run his mouth. He stated Duke fans always makes excuses and that 1 player doesn't make a team. I asked him "do you even watch the games any more? Do you know how big of an impact Zion has for Duke? His response was, "Typical Duke fans making excuses as always". I'm hoping for a healthy Zion this week and we face those cheating bastards once again.

Jurkin I love your posts about the 'Holes! They are always spot-on per their fans noses up in the air and obnoxious behavior.By the way I hope if K has a chance to whip em with a healthy Zion, THE GOAT will call a timeout late (like ROY did Saturday) to rub it in......

Thanks. I enjoy your posts as well. By the way, I didn't noticed the late timeout called by Roy. I was so pissed and fussing with my friend in regards to these jackass fans (who were already texting me), that I didn't notice the TO called. Probably for the best I didn't notice lol. The crazy part is I never brag or rub it in to my unc friends when Duke beats UNC . However, you best believe if we play them Friday and Duke wins, things are going to change. I have several Duke buddies of mine who are going to join me in the group text to explain how they feel lol.

Again, you guys living outside the Carolinas have no idea what we go through with these jackasses. Most obnoxious, arrogant holier than thou fan base I’ve ever seen. And not one is any different than the other.

I live in NC, so I know. Trust me, these are terrible fans. I'll never cheer for UNC, ever, under no circumstances, I'll pull for these jackasses.

There are always going to be fans on all sides that take things too far and invest way too much in the relative success of the team they support. I'm sure there have been Duke fans that say awful things.

That said, there is little excuse for it. It's funny where I live because there are UNCheat fans that like to run their mouths and they went to SUNY schools if any school at all. Unfortunately, stupid people exist everywhere and the percentage of them as part of our general society seems to be increasing.

The only thing anyone can really do is work at being better than that, and laugh off the morons.

One thing I can guarantee you is if Duke plays Carolina Friday, and we win, you won't have to worry about these fans. Most of them are just like what you see at their home games. They only seem to show up when Duke is involved. They'll be running for cover like rats if we put the Heels down.
