I can't really argue with you there. You're right. But I still maintain bringing in the best players gives us the best chance. I'd like to think this season was a bit of an anomaly. We had the veteran presence in Amile, Matt and Grayson, we had the guy go from role player to star in Luke, and had one of the best freshmen in the entire country build his game in February and March....but alas, it wasn't meant to be. In the NCAA Tournament you don't get a free pass....and to be honest, we kind of got one in the first half last night, we just didn't capitalize.
The '15 group seemed to fit so nicely in terms of being a complete team. They had a pure point guard, a senior 1/2 who could shoot defend and had guts and leadership oozing from his pores, a D and 3 guy, a do it all type wing that could guard multiple positions and defend rim, a 4 who could defend rebound and had a high basketball IQ, and a 5 who was a stud offensive post player as well as other solid guys for depth. I mean really try to draw up a more complete team, you can't.
This year was dysfunctional from health all the way through our make up of personnel. A world of talent doesn't matter when it doesn't cover all of your needs. Last night we could have used a tyus jones to get initial penetration without being stripped, we could have used a Jahlil okafor to play inside out and loosen up the help D, we could have used a Justise Winslow whose length and versatility would have given multiple SCarolona players fits including thornwell.
As weird as it sounds based on pre season pre injury expectations I think we got the most out of this group that we could this year. After that Nc St loss some thought we wouldn't even make the tournament, so to pull it all together and make that ACC tournament run was something special regardless of our original goals. Another tournament win or two would have really changed this gross final feeling but still the one and done isn't a black and white yes or no concept it's all about putting the right team together IMO, regardless of draftability
