I think there are going to be quite a few with a better than fair shot to make it to state championship game. I don't see one truly dominant team emerging but I could be wrong

Have to wait to see who comes out for football and the various transfers in and out for a better read but......

Early early early For the last year of the DVC- my picks for two teams to make some hay in the 8A playoffs would be:

* Waubonsie Valley - they have a lot back but they have some key spots to fill in both the back 7 and on the line. I'm hearing they might be more open to a handful of guys seeing some action on both sides of the ball (taking and tweaking a page out of the Main South book from last years run) - but this is assuming a bunch of skill kids and lineman kids don't transfer in for next year. If true- I think their defense will be very very tough next year with some of the moves they might be making. The area they are the thinnest is at the Lines. 1 returning starter and the 6th lineman who saw a lot of action are back. They do have a couple of promising young lineman coming up - hopefully they in the weight room!

* Naperville Central - they started mostly juniors last year. They lose Campbell on the Oline/DLine to Western Michigan along with another Olineman and a couple of key players on their defense. I think their biggest question mark is at QB - but I hear a transfer from "the area" may be coming in to plug that hole. I don't feel like I should say who it is or spread rumors as I am not in the know and am just a casual observer. But,..If that is so - they will have a great offense brewing with their RB returning and most of their receiver core. It will be critical to get a pass rush on those guys.

Curious to hear other potential teams out of other conferences.

Assuming the usuall suspects will be in play?
* defending champs
* Loyola or as MC63 calls them LuLu
* HF
* LWE
*Stevie
Etc etc.

IMO a team to keep an eye on even though they are always in the discussion is HF. They return several juniors who played prominent roles on the varsity and also have a few very good sophomores that will make an immediate impact. Offensively, they will be very good at the skill positions but quaterback is once again a question mark defensively, I think this will be the best team they've had on that side of the ball.

No, I asked if they'd like to be called that. This was inrefere

No, no no. I get enough grief for things I actually said. Don't include things you take out of context.

But then, LuLu's not as bad as Voodoo Tatum.

I loved Friday Night Llghts ... I even read the book.

Now, I get the reference. My apologies to you.

Movie was good, but I thought the TV series (the first couple seasons) was even better.

How was the book? Might get that on Amazon for vacation pleasure reading.

Who do the champs have coming back?

The only school I am comfortable with putting up there is Loyola.

H-F had their class and didnt get it done.

We may have to transition edgytim from football over to basketball. And I have to somehow transition myself as well. Football is done guys.

Hf will be dangerous defensively on the line 2 sophs Brooks and Coe will be dominant for the next two years. At linebacker you have a stud in Mario Wright probably the best backer in the state and also Williams who will only be a junior and Justin Hall another d1 player. On the back end watch on for soon to be senior Marcell Ellis and upcoming junior corner Dennis Hagan. Will be one of the states top defenses watch out

I enjoyed the book very much. Before you contact Amazon, check with your library. If they don't have it, they probably can get it. (However, the pages will likely be yellow, and the print hard to read). Your decision.

Umm Marist has to be up there with HF. They return Taylor, their RB, a couple of WRs - 2 or 3 OLs, Ivy (TE). Defense has 4-5 starters coming back. They have 3 FBS Power 5 schoolie guys and another 2-3 with FCS offers. If Marist isn't ranked in Top 3 in State I'd be shocked.

Dean you thinking rematch between LA and Marist in 8A?
As for MC - will they be 7A or 6A?
You thinking MC gets to title game?

Marist does return a solid core but like Rice lose a lot of top end talent that will be hard to replace. They lose two D1 O-lineman, D1 LB, D1 CB plus some really solid starters on the Oline, LB and secondary. Marist-Rice week 1 should be a fun one, looking forward to that.

For MC, they should make a nice run in the playoffs. Really wish the transfers were still around, it would have made for a fun race for the Blue title with LA and BR.

As of right now the only 2 key starters lost/transferred for MC are Brown OL and Griffn (QB/DB) correct?

As far as I know but those are HUGE losses. Two top 100 guys added to the current MC team makes them favorites in whichever class they end up IMO.

I agree if they had Brown and Griffith - they'd be Blue Favorites. If Taylor goes to Bolingbrook as some have mentioned then that would really hurt.

Marist, IMO, was one of the most over rated teams last season. I know it was the first game, but this high powered offense scored 7 points against a very generous BR defense...they ran the table in a real down year in the ESCC, and went one and done in the playoffs. I knew New Trier would beat them.

The Marist O was a work in progress during the season. Yes they do lose a couple of very solid players on their O Line and some key D players. But they do return a bit

Taylor is still at MC and has been involved in all off season workouts, I don't think he's going anywhere, if he does, yeah it would hurt, but I saw several games last season and Taylor didn't jump out on defense to me...he was good, has potential, but will the season be lost without him? No. Rogers ,who is returning LB starter did just as well. Ross Valenti will be a force at LB too. They have 2 starters on the DL back, a great DB in Eddie McGee, Fresh and Soph went 7-2...MC will be fine....Alek Thomas had on the job training, with a full off season, with his ability, he can beat anyone. Nakos had 10 TDs as RB, he'll be back with Kenneth Davis, Billingsley came on as a great WR last year, he's 6'5. Jeremy Cooper will be the leader on the line...Losing Brown and Griffith was a killer, but Lenti will have MC ready as always.
