Louisville WBB faces Union University tonight in an exhibition game at the KFC YUM! Center. Game time is 7 p.m. It's the start of the 2021-22 season for the Cards WBB squad and they'll face a foe that was selected by the coaches as the preseason favorite to repeat as Gulf South Conference Champions.

In addition, Jaelencia Williams and Shanique Lucas were both named to the preseason All-GSC team. Williams, a senior back for her COVID season, was named the GSC West Player of the Year last season, first-team All-GSC, GSC All-Tournament, South Region All-Tournament and D2CCA All-America honorable mentioned. She averaged 17.4 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game last season. Lucas, as a sophomore last season, was named first-team All-GSC West, GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, GSC All-Tournament, and GSC All-Academic. She led Union with 18.4 points per game. She added 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

Sara Hammond was an assistant there until this season. She is now married, living in Memphis and head coach at Lausanne Collegiate School, a college preparatory school in Memphis The Jeff Walz coaching tree continues to expand.

Who Walz will start against Union is anyome's guess. I'll go with VanLith, Kianna Smith, Cochran, Hall and Engstler -- but one thing is pretty guaranteed -- we'll see a lot of different combinations and players tonight on the court of the Cards.

Cards Radio 780 will have the broadcast if you can't attend. That's how I'll be following because of work.

Go Cards, Beat Union!

Ladies did what I expected tonight. Quick notes:
HVL, Cochran, K Smith, Robinson and Dixon all performed well. Konno and Russell both solid off the bench. A Smith can be a real weapon if she can be consistent. Engstler - just wow. Hall - just wow. Verhulst is going to very good. That leaves Ramani and Sydni. Ramani still looks a bit weak and a bit lost; but, she could spell a post player at times and make some plays. Sydni - as CJW mentioned the other day she is still a bit of a work in progress. To me, when it is all said and done I think she can be quite a player. She runs the floor and moves very well for a player her size. Needs to get stronger. If I forgot anyone - my apologies. The ONLY area which was a problem - FT shooting was not good. I imagine they will all shoot a gazillion between now and the AZ game.

I was very impressed tonight with our teams athleticism. I know the competition wasn’t good but we continued to use the time to work on our game. Engstler and Hall are going to be huge for us this season.
