My understanding of that situation: Barnhart was effectively told to sit that one out and do what he’s told on hiring Calipari after bungling the previous hire. He was no Calipari fan and likely wouldn’t have approached it otherwise.
More than that. It’s been said that Barnhart even said he’s not responsible for whatever happens when Calipari comes. That it wasn’t his decision and if he gets us in trouble Barnhart isn’t the reason. He even had Peevy move into the basketball AD role because he thought it was going to end bad. Then it’s been admitted they had no relationship the entire time.
Barnhart had zero to do with Calipari. If Mitch had his way 100, we’d likely have no championships and final fours since 1998. Think about that.
And he’s been allowed to stay here because he’s good at giving money to the band, and putting sports money into drama buildings. He’s a hatchet man he’s not here to win he’s here to do whatever it is they want him to do. It’s obvious, imo of course. Look at the campus, it’s all about building and land lording. We are not concerned with winning at the highest level. We let the rest of the league do that, and we collect a share of their success. And build again.
Mitch Barnhart’s tenure, when it’s his call, has zero final fours since 1998. Last SEC title 2005. No championship game appearances in football. No January 6th bowl games.
23 years.
And this is why no one has tried to hire him away, and why he’s one of the lowest paid AD’s in the conference if not the lowest, or last I saw. This board must get serious we are now a professional league and if we want to survive all the shifting in the future, which is going to get even more wild, you have to give them a reason for you to be here. Think Alabama and LSU are going to continue to rev share with Kentucky when they don’t have to? No.
Barnhart is the worst AD in history here. The very worst. He must go and go now.
