Might have happened if the spineless AD was out of the way and had someone that gave a damn about basketball. Bruce Pearl would inject the energy this fan base needs and be a threat to win a National Title.
But you would've fired pearl, after his first final four at auburn in year 5, and yes he had 5 stars on all those rosters, he didnt make it past the 2nd rd the next 5 years, including a losing season with a record of 13-14...then his last final four in his last year

??? You are all over the place here and don't make a lick of sense.

We couldn’t hire Bruce Pearl because… *checks notes*… ah, yes: the NCAA didn’t like that he hosted a BBQ without their highest blessing.

We are hamstrung by an administration that seemingly forgets college sports has become the Wild West and sometimes you just need to find the best ‘cowboy’ for the job. Our leadership wants choir boys with killer instincts, a pairing of traits that doesn’t exist.

I mean I can’t say it doesn’t make sense at this point. I just think Bruce’s baggage that isn’t all well known will definitely stop any talk of that. But.

He has yet to win championship and Auburn can’t give him that. Too difficult. It’s a miracle he got 2 final fours. It would be more difficult to win it there than anywhere. I guess it’s possible because he did get to the final four but he’s been ejected immediately, and Calipari being Calipari is the only reason he got 2 in the first place. Won’t get that again likely. this was he best team he’ll ever have at auburn. Couldn’t do it.

2. Him and his kid would be the national attention of the year, and he loves that.

3. He’s always wanted to coach here. Bruce never got a shot at a blue blood. His baggage is too deep. So this would be something he’d dream of, revamping Kentucky and being the savior.

It all adds up, even cleaning up Calipari’s mess and erasing him here.

Problem is he’s retired, he’s 65, and he might be running for office. I’d imagine he wants to do TV and doesn’t want to coach anymore. He’s loaded and his son is becoming loaded. They look like they’re done, his son will be fired in a few years and they’ll count their money.

Also, Mitch Barnhart would never hire Pearl with the baggage he really has and the type of person he is. Kentucky won’t hire those types, Calipari is nowhere near the POS Pearl is and our administration tried not to hire him. So, can’t see it happening.

Oats is the guy, but Pope just got here. Barnhart has put us in a crazy bad spot.

It’s more than that. He has a lot more baggage than that, and the issue wasn’t the BBQ. The issue was he tried to cover it all up by having players AND their families lie which put them in jeopardy with the NCAA. So it’s not about a BBQ even thought that’s the trendy thing to say. It’s never been true. You don’t get 5 year show cause for an illegal BBQ. But a massive coverup that ruined his coaching staff, nearly ruined recruits, and put families in jeopardy yes you get show cause for that.

And that’s not even close to the worst things he’s done. Bruce is a really bad guy. But he’s charming so people get sucked in.

Now that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t hire him at this point. But he’s more likely to cause major issues that Calipari was. So it will be a gamble if that were to happen. Kentucky won’t do it though, we have an AD that is sackless. Until he’s gone nothing here will change. Stop going to games.

Auburn is the dirtiest program in the SEC fully ran by boosters. It’s the only reason he had a power 5 job. Nobody would touch him.

Was Gillispie known as a choir boy?
Didn’t Barnhart do something stupid like hire an outside business firm to find our coach in 2007? I remember it being incredibly silly that he couldn’t even assemble a proper set of UK guys to make the hiring decision.

I swear they didn’t even do a proper background check on BCG because it looked like Dumb*ss was a bit shocked when someone mentioned the multiple DUIs during the press conference announcement.

Heard Bruce is said, not by me but others, to like the strip clubs and the ladies on campus. Not to mention he’s a habitual liar and it takes a substantial amount of effort to clean up after him. He’s never changed anywhere he’s been. He’s a habitual liar and lets anything go on in his programs. He’ll do anything and allow anything to get recruits. There’s no discipline and very renegade players on campus.

Surely you understand Pearl was given a show cause, has only coached UT and Auburn, the two worst most corrupt sports institutions in the SEC, by force right? Bruce was never offered major head coaching basketball positions not because he doesn’t win, he wins a lot, because you can’t get through vetting him and maintain your sanity. He will not be hired here. Auburn my guy, that’s basketball purgatory. He can’t be vetted by serious institutions who aren’t ran by “win at all cost” boosters. Auburns boosters are their board lol.

I don’t mind saying I’d hire him right now but I’m not going to lie and say everybody else is doing what he does. They’re not. He’s a unique case and very corrupt guy, his work history pretty much shows you that just have some common sense. You don’t need to know everything and neither do I.

That’s my opinion take it or leave it but, I’d still hire him right now. And I’ve always been no to Bruce Pearl for a vert specific reason. But we have To win hire him. I do believe he’s uniquely bad in these areas, but maybe it’s not too far off the rest he just isn’t good at getting away with it.

My understanding of that situation: Barnhart was effectively told to sit that one out and do what he’s told on hiring Calipari after bungling the previous hire. He was no Calipari fan and likely wouldn’t have approached it otherwise.
More than that. It’s been said that Barnhart even said he’s not responsible for whatever happens when Calipari comes. That it wasn’t his decision and if he gets us in trouble Barnhart isn’t the reason. He even had Peevy move into the basketball AD role because he thought it was going to end bad. Then it’s been admitted they had no relationship the entire time.

Barnhart had zero to do with Calipari. If Mitch had his way 100, we’d likely have no championships and final fours since 1998. Think about that.

And he’s been allowed to stay here because he’s good at giving money to the band, and putting sports money into drama buildings. He’s a hatchet man he’s not here to win he’s here to do whatever it is they want him to do. It’s obvious, imo of course. Look at the campus, it’s all about building and land lording. We are not concerned with winning at the highest level. We let the rest of the league do that, and we collect a share of their success. And build again.

Mitch Barnhart’s tenure, when it’s his call, has zero final fours since 1998. Last SEC title 2005. No championship game appearances in football. No January 6th bowl games.

23 years.

And this is why no one has tried to hire him away, and why he’s one of the lowest paid AD’s in the conference if not the lowest, or last I saw. This board must get serious we are now a professional league and if we want to survive all the shifting in the future, which is going to get even more wild, you have to give them a reason for you to be here. Think Alabama and LSU are going to continue to rev share with Kentucky when they don’t have to? No.

Barnhart is the worst AD in history here. The very worst. He must go and go now.

Pearl isn’t coming here. He hates the NIL game. It’s why he left college basketball.
