We’ve all thought about it, but how...

....old do you think you’ll live to be?

I’m 52, and try and enjoy every single day of my life. The reality is I probably only have 20-30 years left at most. It’s weird to think about it that way.

I’m not afraid of dying, but rather how I’m going to die.

I’m hoping to live for as long as I’m able to get around and take care of myself. Once I can’t do that anymore, a quick, painless death would be ideal.

I’m not all that familiar with you as a poster, but I find myself agreeing with your takes.

Soon to be 58 (If the Lord doesn't take me home.) My Dad lived to be 74, my Grandpa on my Mom's side lived to be 72. I have taken a lot better care of myself than they did. I am a lot heavier than they were but I eat well, just too much. (Not a slob by any means) I wear a 40 inch waist and am nearly 6 feet tall. I stated all that to state this;

No one is promised tomorrow. I want to live longer than my wife to ensure she is well cared for as she deserves my best. My children are on good paths. I am thankful....

“Death is always on the way, but the fact that you don’t know when it will arrive seems to take away from the finiteness of life. It’s the terrible precision we hate so much. But because we don’t know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can’t even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps 20. And yet it all seems limitless.” Paul Bowles, The Sheltering Sky

Only 45 but feel like I will be lucky to hit 60. Health isn't what it used to be. Put on about 40 pounds over the last 4 or 5 years due to less activity after multiple surgeries on my spine. Need to start eating healthier to make up for the less activity and maybe I will make it to 65 to 70. Who knows though? My grandmother lived to be 90 being overweight and smoking for a large part of her life.

Cool stuff. I am 5”10 with a “34 inch waist.

However, I don’t have the best of genes. I’ve been taking blood pressure and cholesterol medications since I was 40.

I drank way too much, but I workout like crazy five times a week. My diet is also pretty strict. I don’t drink soft drinks, and I gave up rice, pasta, bread, and potatoes months ago.

I’ve never smoked. That being said, both sides of my family have died at a relatively young age. The exceptions being both Grandmothers. My Mom’s Mother was 88, and my Fathers mom was 84.

I'm 39 and my blood pressure, blood sugar, pulse, cholesterol, etc are all good to go. I workout and try to walk when I play golf. I quit smoking at 29, quit eating sweets 4 years ago, and quit drinking a month ago. I'm feeling like I'm about at the halfway point. My wife can retire around 55, but I will probably work till 65 because I like my work and we will need healthcare. She hates working and we will probably have grandchildren by then. Honestly I am ready to go and make a run at crushing out this last 40 years. If they are as good as the first 40 have been my life will have been well lived and abundantly blessed.

Well I've made it 63 years and I'm hoping for at least 45-50 more. I work out , eat right and take plenty of laxatives to stay cleaned out. ( I **** at a minimum of 4X per day) I believe in a clean colon.
I try to maintain a good weight / height ratio and I belive I'm on the right path for success.

6'4" and weigh 140Lb.

I'm turning 40 in three weeks, and it's got me thinking about this a lot lately. I need to do a few things if I want to make it past 60:

1) stop smoking
2) lose weight...like 80 lbs
3) eat better...cut out sweets, sodas, and fast food
4) exercise more than 15 mins on the elliptical once a month

Basically, like a lot of people I developed horrible unhealthy habits in my teens and 20s. It never mattered much then as I always had energy and my metabolism kept me from being overweight. That all changed in my early 30s, and I've ballooned in the last several years. I'm good at ignoring things that I don't like (really healthy mentality I know), so I've tried not to think about it. Now, my 40th birthday has caused me to look my unhealthy lifestyle in the face. I'd really prefer to be around to see my grandkids and all that.

I'm 39 and hope I have 39 more in me.

I work with the aging population and between dementia/Alzheimer's/Parkinson's/falls/strokes/cancer/loneliness/hip, knee, shoulder replacements I just hope to go out before it gets...…..bad.

I've worked with some very successful people who got early on-set dementia at around 50-55 years old. Scary ****.

Yeah, I cut out soft drinks 5-6 years ago. I cut out any bread, potatoes, pasta and rice the first of the year. My sugar levels have dropped dramatically. I don’t miss bread or rice at all, but I do miss pasta and potatoes.

I’ve also cut down on craft beers and started drinking Mich Ultra.

Wine good so far.
I drink a ton of red wine.

I just had extensive blood tests about three weeks ago, and everything was in the good range. I really believe cutting out a lot of carbs has really improved my health, especially my sugar.

Idgaf as long as I don’t live long enough to be put in a nursing home. I’ll escape that hell hole and walk in front of a semi.
Lol.

I’m of the same thought process.

I remember a guy from Turfway Park. I would have a beer with him and talk about the ponies. Probably knew him from there for 30 years. His name was Herb.

Couldn’t tell you his last name but we appreciated each other. Track people are a weirdly close group.

I walked into Turfway on a Friday a couple of years ago, and was informed that Herb had passed away. I had just had a beer with him the night before at TP.

I was told that he had gone home from there and was in his recliner with a beer in his hand and fell asleep. He never woke up. Herb was 83.

That’s the way to go.
