We have the resources. We're just stupid with how we use our resources.

We sometimes have posters say we either need to get serious about paying for good coaches or that we just don't have the finances to lure good coaches here.

However, we have the 17th highest paid head coach in the country. Our head coach makes slightly less than James Franklin at PSU who has done everything but win a national title and has a 70% winning percentage. Our head coach has a 56% win percentage. (No, I'm not holding up Franklin as a great coach, but he has accomplished FAR more than Beamer for only slightly more money)

Our OC and DC make nearly top 10 money nationally.

Our AWFUL OL coach got a 67% raise this offseason and makes well above the average for an OL coach.

We have a very well paid staff. We just are not spending our money well.

Some people around here (Cobie) act like we have App State type money. We have as much money as Clemson but we don't spend it wisely.

If we were paying bargain salaries and getting bargain results, it would still be frustrating but at least you're getting what you paid for. We're paying nearly top tier salaries for bargain bin results, though.

It's not that we aren't serious about paying. We just have no discernment for what to buy with our money.

It's like paying $90k for a Ford Escort and then being surprised when it doesn't drive like a Corvette.

We just have to be serious.

No doubt. My point is, lack of money isn't the problem, who we pay it to is the problem. The same is true for recruiting to a degree. We aren't losing players to teams that pay them more, we lose players to teams the players want to play for more. Top talent recruits want to go to consistently winning programs and play on a big stage. South Carolina isn't and doesn't.

I didn't realize we gave that cat a 67% raise this past offseason. That's LUNACY!!!! After underperforming for years, you give him a huge raise?!?!?!? What are we (Beamer) doing????!?!???!!??!? (Sellers' heroics bailed the OL out last season!)

Don't forget that Sellersbis the 5th highest paid college football player too.

Talk of us being "poor" is pretty silly.

So, why were we losing before the 2 Baseball National Championships and before the 3 Women's Basketball National Championships. Prioritizing other sports is not the problem. Decision making with regard to coaches and others things has been.
Three straight 11 win seasons before Ray started hiring.

Fully agree. We just make bad decisions with the resources we have. What we pay our head coach and assistants is fully on par with other CFP-contending teams.

We need a predominately performance-based pay scale. Start out with a decent baseline but the real $ is made when your unit performs.

Probably have more money than Clemson. Too lazy to look it up but last time I saw such numbers SC’s athletic department was doing better than Clemson’s financially. The biggest reason was SEC TV contract money.

I’ve convinced myself that the administration never has to care about football. They get the financial benefits of the aforementioned, bowl money even when they don’t make a bowl, and practically every home game is a sellout. Why should they try to do anything more? Maybe if season tickets sales dried up and attendance dropped that would help? Probably doesn’t matter as long as ESPN or whomever keeps printing money for the league

I've always been in favor of heavily incentive laden contracts. Start with a modest base salary with massive incentives for winning.

The problem with that model (which I agree with btw) is that a proven coach would never go for a contract like that. They know they can get guaranteed money somewhere else.

I'd like to see a contract that paid a base salary of $600,000, $500,000 for each win, $1,000,000 for a conference championship, $1,000,000 for a playoff appearance and $5,000,000 for a national championship.

A coach could make $13,600,000 in a year under that contract.

Shawn Elliott is another one. He makes a whopping $750,000. Eighth highest paid TE coach in the country and he also serves as our run game coordinator.

Anyone who says we don't have the money to compete is foolish.

If I was running game coordinator I would have turned in my keys Saturday

Might as well have let Sellers walk if he is being paid that much. I am not bitter just hate the game of NIL. We got emobarASSed by Vandy at home. Outside of winning 8 straight, season is a joke with no return on investment of all the money spent.
