We are so one dimensional it's flat out embarassing! When you have a tight end like a CJ Conrad and multiple receivers that can and will catch decent, not even good, passes on intermediate routes and we dont utilize it??? I'm not talking about the deep ball. Just short, safe passes that keep a damn defense honest. With the weapons that SJ has only to have 54yds passing in the 4th qtr? We arent going to win many BIG games this way...

Have to be able to catch what's thrown. WRs were thought to be a team strength but now appear to be ordinary. BTW, where's Ross, who was described early in the fall as "the manster?"

We could have the best passer in the SEC but if the coaches are always playing to not lose instead of playing to win it doesn't make that big of a difference, IMHO.

Not much of a take, really. Chicken and egg issue. Do you honestly think our staff is so stupid as to play this conservatively if we can field a successful balanced attack?

That's true. On the year UK is averaging a not too shabby 7.6 YPA (#45). FWIW, GA is averaging 6.3 YPA, #104 nationally. The aforementioned P/R ratio was a bit hard to figure. But most here believe the running game behind Snell and Williams is UK's best option on offense and apparently so did the staff.

Peace

Johnson being able to play loose would mean a Johnson that would play with more confidence. Playing on our toes instead of our heels would mean wanting to win big and not backing off because of afraid to lose. We will win some games with playing not to lose but building and sustaining a powerful program will never happen.

Really wish this staff had a 'win big' attitude instead of a 'pulling it out' mind set because moving to the next level by signing higher skilled athletes would be a lot more possible. Kind of like do we etch out enough wins to get to a bowl game and hopefully sign better recruits or do we install an offense that higher skilled players want to be a part of?

If I was Johnson I would also be tense and tight.

Either we have develop some sort of passing game or Johnson needs to factor more in the running game than he does. It would work a little better if he were a legit threat out of the read but right now he's not. A couple of times he did keep and picked up yards and that seemed to start to open things for Benny and Boom but we only did it once or twice. Bottom line is you can't beat real teams if you QB is a complete non factor. It's the most important position on the field and you have to have some productivity from it.

Should have burned Hoak's redshirt several games ago..He can throw the damn ball and accurately too.

And we have seen this first hand. Throwing against non college playing high school dbs, and elite sec football players are two different animals. Eason was the concesius number one qb in that class and has struggled with better pieces around him. I promise you when the careers of the coaches was on the line early in the season the best player for us to win with was on the field. Heck he is 5-2.

At this point, I think I agree. We could have worked both, slowly breaking Hoak in, at least developing a large package he could execute for us, even if we couldn't use the whole book. But, at this point, I'd not have the staff make a Jimmy Haley of him. Ultimately, I think they overestimated SJ when they determined to leave that shirt on, and winning made it too easy to stick with that decision, so that now they are stuck with it. I don't say this in criticism. I think SJ shows enough potential at times to make this error in judgment understandable.

What I can't figure out is when would they put Hoak in the game and take Johnson out. I've never thought, I wish we had a back-up to put in....not yet, anyway. We were never going to win the Alabama game, regardless of whether he fumbled, or not. Clearly, his leadership allowed helped us move into FG range against Miss State. He did NOTHING to cause us to lose against Georgia. Receivers missed more than a few good throws and also fumbled. So.....if Hoak is eligible and ready to go.....when do you take Johnson out and play Hoak? Your thoughts are welcomed......

What a ridiculous thread. Barker got hurt (before that we were throwing it around, a lot). Our backup isn't a great passer. Benny Snell and our offensive line has emerged. Hoak isn't ready (based on coaches actions and supported by the fact that Eason - much more highly rate) has not set the world on fire.

We scored 24 points (not exactly horrendous) and our RB's averaged more than 5 yards per carry. And we beat the spread, not a moral victory just more of a reality check.

Stop acting like every loss means the coaching staff screwed up. Sometimes you get beat.

If you can run the ball, you run the ball. We can run the ball. & it runs time off clock for our D & against their O. It's not hard. UK RAN FOR THE MOST YARDS AGAINST UGA ALL YEAR!!

SJ threw a good game against Uga. I really don't get the bitching about him. WR's much worse. His worse problem is fumbling vs. throwing.
