Why do you say?Kelly ? Working for Beamer ?
Not at all realistic.
Ask yourself. Can you really envision a willingness from both parties to make this union work. Why do you say?
Ask yourself. Can you really envision a willingness from both parties to make this union work.
We can comfortably assume the answer is a no, we can not, particularly from Mr. Kellys perspective.
Probably. I saw it mentioned he could take the Cal job.Kelly may choose to backfill one of the lower level programs after their HC takes one of the big openings.
Yes, hard to envision Kelly working for Beamer. But from Beamer’s perspective this should be a make him tell you no situation.Ask yourself. Can you really envision a willingness from both parties to make this union work.

It's almost a guaranteed "no" but I'd at least ask.Yes, hard to envision Kelly working for Beamer. But from Beamer’s perspective this should be a make him tell you no situation.
I think Kelly would have to be pretty desperate for a job to take a job at a program with a coach on a white hot seat that is also lacking in talent on O. Not to mention the fact that Kelly would probably view Beamer as an unqualified HC who was hired based on nothing more than his last name and hasn't done much to prove that opinion wrong. Kelly would view himself as much more qualified to be the head coach than Beamer.
I agree he hasn't been anything special, but I am sure he sees himself as head and shoulders above Beamer. Not in Beamer's defense, but what has Kelly done since leaving Oregon? Fired by the Eagles. Fired by the 49ers. Did ok at UCLA. Left for OSU and succeeded there with existing players...but who doesn't succeed at OSU? Then fired by the Raiders after less than a season.
I agree with that.I agree he hasn't been anything special, but I am sure he sees himself as head and shoulders above Beamer.
It would be a huge opportunity by Beamer, early in his career, to absorb knowledge from someone who has knowledge to give.I agree he hasn't been anything special, but I am sure he sees himself as head and shoulders above Beamer.
Lincoln Riley is another one that fits that mold. He would probably have won a NC had he stayed at OU. I think USC's day in the sun is over.I agree with that.
He probably sees himself as many fans still do...the uber successful coach at Oregon who had the football world at his feet. But that's been 13 years ago. Given his HC experience, it would be hard to see him coming to work for someone of Beamer's caliber. Unless maybe Beamer gave him the keys to the offense and offensive staff, but even then probably not.
Off topic, but Kelly is a cautionary tale that the grass is not always greener. Not hard to imagine he could have a won a couple titles had he stayed at Oregon.
Yep. Neither happens without asking at a minimum. And the right amount of money. It's almost a guaranteed "no" but I'd at least ask.
You never know, we could be the fat ugly guy with an attractive girlfriend
And there it is. (My original point exactly)I think Kelly would have to be pretty desperate for a job to take a job at a program with a coach on a white hot seat that is also lacking in talent on O. Not to mention the fact that Kelly would probably view Beamer as an unqualified HC who was hired based on nothing more than his last name and hasn't done much to prove that opinion wrong. Helton was 34-18 through 4 seasons.Lincoln Riley is another one that fits that mold. He would probably have won a NC had he stayed at OU. I think USC's day in the sun is over.
Nope. Beamer wasn't in his wedding party.Kelly ? Working for Beamer ?
Not at all realistic.
Yup....we're likely a small blip on his radar.Seem much more likely if he returns to OC in college football he goes back to somewhere like Ohio State after current OC Brian Hartline takes a HC job, or if Hartline gets a big enough job maybe he hires Kelly as his OC, just like that article says.
But a blip....Yup....we're likely a small blip on his radar.

No way. Whoever we hire needs to have demonstrated, at least, competence as a college OC.Would rather have an up and comer personally.
Beamer will never be able to pull a “name”.Just sayin'. Doubt he'll get much interest from the NFL.
He's Beamer's dream candidate: extensive NFL experience and extensive OC experience in college.
He showed at OSU he can still call an offense (yeah, yeah, I know Ryan Day really runs the offense).
This is not a push for Kelley. But for those saying it’s a hard no, just remember how surprising it was when we got Holtz and Spurrier. Anything can happen.
I don’t know either man personally of course. But in general it’s hard to imagine a guy in his 60’s who can claim some accomplishment as a college HC going to work for a man in his 40’s whose leadership amounts to enthusiastic clapping. This is not a push for Kelley. I would see it more as getting a coach in the twilight of his career. Kelly is on the downward slope of things. He's far removed from his accomplishments as a HC.I don’t know either man personally of course. Would be less surprised to get him next year as an HC than right now as an OC
That’s what I tend to think. Coaches at high levels have no barrier to the positive light in which they view themselves. They may have a barrier to reality however.I would see it more as getting a coach in the twilight of his career. Kelly is on the downward slope of things. But, yes, I imagine he still sees himself as a big dog and not wanting to go work for a relative novice.
The only success Kelly has had in the 14 years since he left Oregon was his year as OC at OSU, but OSU is at plug-and-play level. They replaced their OC and DC from last season's national title team and haven't missed a beat...and are arguably better. That’s what I tend to think.
