Kerr brings a fire off the bench. So the Cats could definitely use him.
But he is just as bad defensively as Perry is. And Perry is a better shooter.
Butler has to play 32 minutes for the Cats to be great. He will be tired. But lots of players play 30 plus minutes in College.

Mark Sears played 38 today and the last five minutes were his best stretch. Butler's nagging injuries are a way bigger problem than his minutes. Hopefully he will heal up this week.

As for Perry, Bama's guards are absolute jets. Perry never faced anything like he saw today in Kentucky high school basketball half a season ago. He knows he has to be better.

Is it realistic that he is able to come back this season? Doesn’t seem like it to me but what do you all think?

Also, could he redshirt if not?

Pope/UK have talked as though they expect him back, originally saying 3-6 weeks. I have been skeptical of that, certainly of the timeline - and Saturday was 6 weeks. I figured if we saw him again, ~8 weeks would be best case scenario but it could be longer, pushing toward March. And that's if no setbacks or slow healing as is common with this particular injury. If he does miss the rest of the year, he would be eligible for a medical hardship waiver.

Thanks. Personally I’m going to be really surprised if we see him play again this year but it would be awesome if he were able to come back and contribute. Really sad we haven’t been able to watch him roll and grow with this team more.

People keep wanting Kerr back next season. That means Perry is 3rd string again. We surely aren't rolling with Kerr and Perry at PG n the sec next season I would hope.

Good post op. When I awoke and thought about the game it was the first thing I thought as well… of what can help us.

Perry may improve his technique but his athleticism and lateral quickness have God given limits.
Love the kid and so glad to have him on our team but he will most likely always have a physical ceiling on his ability to compete against elite college bball guards.

That is true about Sears, but Butler expends way more energy on defense than 99 percent of players. That on top of running the point on this current UK team is not a good recipe for 35 minutes a game the rest of the way.

Perry is a liability on the defensive end and even doubly so if he can't get his shot off on the offensive end. I get why we want to see Kentucky kids play but, they have to at least be able to defend.
Kerr is terrible on defense too. What are yall watching

Is he reliable enough to start at PG? And play big minutes? If not, will need another portal pg to start.

From what I’ve seen the answer is yes. He’s getting compared to a slightly slower Fox but a much better shooter. Doubt that sort of dude stays on the bench much.

I’ve said this in every Krisa thread I’ll say it again, his injury is very hard to come back from in a short amount of time. Best case scenario is March and even then his foot would still not be great. It will 1000 percent be a pain tolerance thing if he does come back. As for next year if Krisa gets a medical year, Kentucky cannot have Johnson, Perry and Krisa be their PGs. They have to go get somebody better like a butler type. Johnson needs to be a combo guard not a main PG, Perry is a scorer off the bench, and Krisa should never be your starting PG.

I feel Kerr's influence is greatly misunderstood by a lot of folks.
For every post about what he does good or where he is a liability, everyone can make a good argument.
The thing I like about him is his energy, passion and hustle. For every mistake on defense, he creates issues for the other team with his constant "in your face" defense.

He can hit shots maybe not as consistent as others but as good as Ansley does. He rebounds, fights thru screens but mostly brings energy and focus to the game.
I like the Perry kid but yesterday the guard from Alabama ate his lunch every time he came into the game. The announcers even made comments about when he came in about how Alabama immediately one after him.
Kerr likes that attention and it only makes him go even harder on defense.

His absence has been felt and if and when he comes back, I like what he brings to this team.

That's good news then. If we paying him 1 million (if true) he needs to be good enough to start.

Can’t play Perry in these kinds of games unless he’s knocking down threes. They took advantage of him every time down the court.
I think they took advantage of all our players except Butler and Oweh. Perry is just a little too small to handle quick and strong guards, but I like his effort. He will continue to improve as he matures, and I hope he stays with UK.

Wasn’t Lewis recruited to be a PG? I think he would be in the mix.

I also think Pope goes after a top tier PG in the Portal, because I don’t think any of the three is starter material at this point.

Perry is just not athletic enough to guard players like Bama- had a couple good looks at a 3 and missed them- hard to give Butler a rest in games like this right now

I don't have numbers in front of me to support this, but I feel like he speeds up the other team, that can help to alleviate issues with our defense getting set and then exposed. When he's got the ball he also makes some pretty damn good passes that leave one wondering "how did he see THAT?". He's valuable.

I believe the plan was for Lewis to share the point next season (15/25 minutes) with a tough and experienced new player similar to Butler who would start and help with Lewis's development. That was before Kriisa's injury. If Kriisa can't make it back to the court this year and wants to return next season with a medical redshirt, I don't see Mark Pope cutting him loose for a different portal guy.

I really like the idea of Travis Perry being a lead guard for us some day but I don't think the athleticism is there that allows him to compete with SEC guards. I would love to see Kerr back for another year and count me among those who are pessimistic that we will see him return this season given the fact that he is still wearing a special shoe and not allowed to even jog at this point.

Spears is 1st team All American and he goes by everyone
Travis must make wide open jumpers to help the team
Krissa ain’t doing one ounce better than Perry on Spears
Krissa is a emotional leader that’s it
Spears wasn’t going by Lamont Butler and Butler was pieced together by medical staff. Goes to show how lucky we are to have Butler.
