NIL and TP has rendered the Kentucky tradition a non-factor. We are no longer the destination program for coaches. We have become Indiana minus the football team. Sure, we could get the basketball version of Cignetti, but it’s highly unlikely. We are just a mid program now. Sad to see, but this is not your father’s UK basketball program.

The NIL argument doesn’t make sense if Kentucky has indeed spent over $20 million on this roster. That’s like Texas football NIL money. Kentucky has shown their willingness to spend as much as most football schools on basketball. Where is this argument coming from that Kentucky is unwilling to spend big on NIL?

Hell no we’re not accepting that because it’s not true. We hired a ****** coach and will go back to being great again when we hire the right one. SMH all these pope lovers on this board are mentally ill people

These Coach first fans are mentally ill individuals apparently. Wth is wrong with some of you? One bad hire doesn’t make our program terrible. lol just because pope is doing a bad job doesn’t mean we can’t find a better coach. Smh

It's not about Pope.
It wasn't even about Cal.

The college basketball landscape has just changed. It's not that UK can't be UK. It's just there's more teams capable of being at the top these days.

If the same people who thought Pope was our best option make the next choice, then yes, it does.

Unfortunately can’t see Pope walking away after just 2 seasons and can’t see Ditch the Mitch firing him so it appears we are stuck. Pope hasn’t sign a recruit so far and never has signed A Dude. Don’t trust his roster management and so far he can’t coach defense in the two seasons he has been here. Just doesn’t look good for the Cats. Throw in the JMI controversy and the UK basketball forecast is not good.
Should have stayed with my gut feeling when I thought Pope was the wrong hire. We need a strong leader who can get the guy playing hard and so far it doesn’t appear Pope’s the guy.
He doesn’t have to be a UK guy and doesn’t even have to recruit Kentucky guys. Get the studs and win.

Fans will make his life hell in Lexington if he fails this year and refuses to step down. I would genuinely have to question his integrity if he doesn’t step down at the end if this season.

UK has one title in 28 years. There is no argument that can be made that UK is even a top 7-8 program right now.

And unfortunately, we’re reaching the point where the top prospects can’t even remember the days when UK went to final fours and won titles.

To them, UConn looks more like the prestigious power school, as they’ve actually seen their glory days. Ours are just some stuff that old people talk about.

Players want one thing. Money. Pay the most and i can promise wins will follow.

You also need a good coach to attract the best with the money. We don't have that sadly.

That’s exactly right. UK has won titles with 5 different coaches.

UK makes coaches.

You have to kiss some frogs along the way to get to the princes.

Pope is just the most recent frog.

Our next prince is out there. We just don’t know who he is yet.

We as fans need to accept no recruit outside the state gives a damn about tradition when it comes to landing recruit. So does the coach.

That doesn’t mean fans have to accept not winning at historical levels. But to do that UK has to have an AD that gets what the new environment requires. UK doesn’t. UK has to be a “cool” destination. It isnt right now.

UK needs to make changes to adjust to the current environment. Pope not playing Johnson is going to kill UK in the recruiting. There is a lot wrong right now, especially with coaching, but expectations aren’t it.

We need to treat Uk as if it’s an NBA team. Need a GM and a real coach. Have to identify 2-3 Fing studs and make sure we sign them. We can’t do that until Pope is gone. Hell, he doesn’t want a GM- he wants total control and has insecurity issues.

Some of you all need to get your heads out of the sand. Kentucky Basketball has been a fading brand for far too long now.

Florida has three to our one. Who exactly is dying to come to Lexington to coach? Not a Pope lover, but Kentucky is not the destination anymore. Why would Oats leave Alabama? Why would Hurley leave UCONN? Why would Scheyer leave Duke? Kansas isn’t exactly killing it either with Self. Times have changed; when Self steps down, people are not going to be lining up to coach at Kansas.

Bottom-line: until NIL is capped UK will be mediocre because it cannot compete with the megadonors other schools have. We spent a lot for this team, but the missed on top targets which killed it. I don't think UK will keep up that level of spend going forward.

By margin our last title was 14 years ago.

Bama football hasn't won a title since 2021 and they are starting to really wanting to fire their coach.
Bama has 18 titles. They have expectations that, although understandable, are unreasonable.

it’s not unreasonable to be in hunt. Which they kind of have been but at some point you have to finish the deed.

While I agree about JJ, the kid is TERRIBLE right now! Like literally unplayable. Even more so than any other guard in the rotation. He’s skinny as a rail and has zero basketball instincts outside scoring.

Even when Tubby wasn't great those teams fought their butts off and were mostly competitive.

Pick any Tubby coached team in those 7 years and they'd run this group out of the gym.
Agreed. Tubby was below preferred standards but that 2003-2005 run of teams were really good.
