Good lord

The guy that has a losing record to calipari?

Pope is in his first year, with a team he put together in a month and had like 7 top 15 wins.

There's a reason not many ppl want this job, op gave a prime example why.

We wanted to get ti the tournament and win a game this hear, and you lunatics have convinced yourselves it's title or bust in yr 1

I reckon you missed the part where CMP came in here hamstrung in the portal from the jump due to our former "coach" leaving us in a bind. This whole season has been us playing with house money. Anyone with any sense can see that. We need some athletes. We're a finesse team this year and it's hard to manufacture something that we aren't. The incoming class so far should be a sign of things to come. Folks crapping on this team this year have zero perspective on what it takes to be competitive.
For me it has nothing to do with the talent level. You are correct he had to scramble. And he did a good job putting together a team. I can wait for better players. What I cannot wait for is preparation, desire and confidence. I am concerned about how our team fairs in a lot of circumstances. I am concerned that the same issues never get corrected.

Fair point but you can have talent and not be athletic enough. We have two athletes on the team in Oweh and Chandler. We get beat off the dribble so much and have opponents in our faces enough that leads me to believe that. We also hesistate on a lot of open looks which allows the defense to make up some ground. Those issues may not get corrected this season but I have no doubt that we will get those kind of ball players in the future. With all that being said, given our limitations I'm of the mind that had we stayed healthy that we would be a very good team.

Only because Ky could get the best talent here because Cal only cared about getting guys to the nba. So the best kids came here and Pitino could not overcome the talent levels. Pay attention.

Sounds like an excuse to me. Shouldn’t the greatest coach in the history of earth, according to this board, be able to scheme a way to beat a rival coach with better talent who “just rolls the balls out there.”

In actuality, Cal owning Rick is what led Rick to cheat at UofL. Cal at UK was 8-2 against Pitino’s Cards.

Technically he didn’t. According to the record books that game didn’t happen.
But the games still happened, they were still played and Pitino still won them, whether the record books acknowledge it or not. It pains me to say that because I hate UL so much.

I cannot and will not acknowledged that due to cheating. Nor should anyone else in my opinion. Getting real sick of this “win at all cost” society.

don’t let your hatred blind you from the fact he’s leaps and bounds better than our coach and any of the coaches you mentioned. Prove to me he’s not.
How many years did Cal coach before he got his title? He got one taken away. You did not even give Pope a day. OK

Well get a 72 year old guy and have the same issue as the last time except he would be gone in 2 years. Kentucky is too much stress on a coach at that age. The guy is gone coaching in the Big East (where he belonged his entire career). Leave the man alone. So I guess year 1 for Pope was supposed to be 40-0. Anything less and he is a bum. Guy had a few weeks to build a complete roster. Not one holdover from last year. I would say he has done as good as any other coach in the same situation. Now has he made a few in game bad calls, sure, so has Ricky P this year, Auburn, Hurleys, Self all coaches do. I think I will give him at least 2 more years to work out the building a roster at UK in todays free trade, highest bidder for a HS player market.

No matter how much you pump up these guys they know they were a bid fish in a tiny pond before getting to the big blue ocean. On top of that we have the sharks in the SEC this year. It is not like pumping up a mid level high school player to get him to play above his station. These guys are limited to their abilities. We have had a great year with the players we have. If we did not have the injuries we are probably looking at a 6 loss to 8 loss team for the year and a 2 or 3 seed with this SEC schedule. Everyone would have taken that back in April last year. We get a 4 seed with 2 guys out for the year, our starting PG playing at 80% per himself and it is a win of a year. If we get lucky and win 2 this week and 1 or 2 in the SEC tourney and we are back to a 3 seed, we lose both and first tourney game and we are a 5 or 6 seed. IT is what it is or aint what it aint at this point. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!

There are literally posters saying they want him back and his ‘sex on the table’, ‘financed abortion’, and ‘hookers in the halls’ is no problem. It’s in the past they say. Then we have those that say ‘hell no, he didn’t win a NC in 2013’ because he was a rule breaker. Come on people … he’s either a POS or he’s not. It can’t go both ways. And fyi, neither he or Pearl would ever be hired at UK even as a ball boy so we really don’t have to worry either way.

I think (at least want to believe) we got the right man. He bleeds blue BUT,
The defense intensity HAS TO change. We can win with offense yes, but we cannot consistently win without elite defense.
I want to give him a pass this year for roster limitations, but the next 2 years I want to see some changes.
I WANT TO DOMINATE College BASKETBALL AGAIN!

Just one question. So you think if they hired him or any other coach, they could have started with zero players and built a team that has done better than pope in year one. They wouldn’t have the same players, so forget injuries and all that. Just brought in 10 new guys and beat 7 top 15 teams. Not what will happen in 2-3 years this year. Sorry I don’t

He coaches circles around all of these clowns and you all know it’s true. We would have won a title within 2-3 years guaranteed.

Who else here is man enough to admit it?

If Rick were 7 - 10 years younger. His retirement horizon is near. We don't need to go through revolving coach doors.

OP, why do you think there would have been support for Pitino to return to UK? You act like Barnhart had a choice. The athletic board and several boosters might likely have said "no".

Yet, he could barely keep up with Cal when Cal was here. Which is the exact argument of why I don't think he'd succeed coming back here now- the pressure would be INSANE.
That's a mystery of mysteries, how the hell cow kept beating RP is beyond me. RP is ten times the coach cow is.

You’re smoking crack dude.
If Pitino would have had this many injuries in a season he would have folded and thrown all his players under the bus. Since the after ole
Miss game (Feb 8) Kentucky is top 20 in both def and offensive efficiency. Pope is doing this with severe injury bug and playing 3 freshman. Two of which really shouldn’t be playing in the sec period.

RP is an extremely flawed man and that was recognized by many during his time in Lexington. I cannot wrap my mind around the idea that many UL fans remain loyal to this guy.
The idea of a drunken 60 something year old man banging a woman on a restaurant table and later arranging a sham marriage with said woman and a member of his staff is beyond disgusting. Not to mention the abortion Pitino paid for.
Jurich should have pulled the trigger at that point, but he didn't. I know of many UL fans that walked away at that point but not nearly enough.
I have no doubt that he would have freaked out in Lexington after a matter of time. His ego was the worst.

I think this is short-sighted. Pitino may have been better year 1, but how long will he be in the game? Pope has done very well and could conceivably be here for 20 years. There is something to be said for continuity.

We may or may not have won a title in three years with Pitino. One the we would have done is have the slimiest, imoral, coach in college basketball. It is funny we want the slimebags, but every day someone is calling Golden, Pearl, Oats, and Hurley all kinds of names but yet some here want the sorriest human in college basketball back here coaching. I guess nothing trumps wins. Shameful to consider a proven dirtbag to coach our Wildcats.

You need context and perspective

St Johns SOS 68
Kentucky SOS 3

St Johns beat 4 ranked teams
Kentucky beat 8 ranked teams

St Johns has 4 Quad 1 wins
Kentucky has 10 Quad 1 wins

Both coaches are doing well, but I'm very happy with Pope and have zero regrets
