Here are some of mine....

Palatine at Stevenson- great early indicator game no question. Palatine no longer is overlooked after last season.
GB North at Naperville Central- immediately a almost must win game for both. Welcome to the DVC
PR at CG- Best of all should take no more than two hours totle..unless a few OT's arte thrown in
Jacobs at Huntley- damn wish I could see both this and the game listed above
Oswego at Minooka- again no more non-con games in the SWP and this one is always good.
St. Laurence at Benet- great early indicator for both. Do not overlook the Vikings folks.
Simeon at OPRF- again Simeron always challenges itseld in non con...heck so does OPRF.
Phillips at Fenwick- Phillips is loaded again and the Friar has 18 starters back.
East St Louis at Providence (Sat)- Anytime East Side travels up North is a must see.
Brother Rice vs Marist @ Soldier Field (Sun)- gotta see this one. Early 8A showdownl type of matchup perhaps?
Glenbard West at Bolingbrook- another great early matchup. Raiders have talent and the Hitters have a ton back as well.
Montini at Maine South- never boring and always well played.

Lockport has a legit gripe with the new SouthWest Suburban Conference. Looks like LWW could win it...

That's a phenomenal opening week of games. Love the competition.

Top 3, for me, in no particular order, outside MS v. MCHS:

StL v. Benet
BR v. Marist
GW v. Brook

These three games are really intriguing. Applause to these ADs for sacking up in week 1.

To follow suit with @mchsalumni, my top 3 are:

Glenbard West vs Bolingbrook
Brother Rice vs Marist
Palatine vs Stevenson

Man, that was tough to pick. Fenwick/Phillips is most intriguing to me...mainly because it's Public vs Catholic, Rich vs Poor (I'm profiling, deal with it), Haves vs The Haves Nots (Profiling again, beat it). It's like Florida State vs Notre Dame.

I'm going to Hinsdale South vs Mount Prospect on Friday night, then St. Pats vs St. Rita on Sunday. I should stay for all the game. They will be serving beer there right? That's a legit question.

More in the category of "interesting" match-ups, would be opening Saturday @ 1pm with Thornton hosting Notre Dame (Niles) on the Harvey grass turf. Intriguing pairing?

I think Joliet West/Oswego East is an interesting matchup. Both teams on the rise.

Of course it is, you are an StF guy. What other games do you like?

mchs,

I agree with SIU because I think SF having a new coach will tell us how well we will or won't do. I don't know much about Geneva but I think if SF can play close it will tell me they could be better than I expect.

I wasn't real thrilled about Fitzgerald leaving and a new coach can maybe cause some panic. I hear SF is going to be using a offense kind of close to what we had with Fitzgerald, but you never know.

So if we play with Geneva maybe it can tell us that we can have a 5-4 season.

I plan on going to the Montini Maine South game anyway but Ill be at a bunch of SF games this year.

Yes, this is an interesting one for sure... Other than Oswego, who is the favorite, the conference is a crap shoot.

I looked ahead to week 2 as well as a precursor for DSR week 3. Week 2 pales in comparison to week 1 in terms of good games. That PRidge-Cary winner definitely in first DSR week 3.

Drag your Dad's and Grandads out of bed, knock the dust off their old High School Scarfs and go watch a bit of history with the 50 year rematch of Mt. Carmel and Taft....then stay for BR/Marist

Why would anyone do that?? Mt Carmel's freshman would put a clock on Taft.

Now that we've covered the Ampipe-WH matchups and broken the seal (or were first to get up to the buffet for seconds) of profiling, what are some potential Charles Jefferson (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) matchups?

Here's another unusual match-up, MC140, involving Thornton. This time Glenbard North coming down to the Southland for a Week 4 Saturday afternoon contest, presumably Homecoming?

Any idea how much $$ parking and tickets for Taft game are?

I guess all you MC guys are holding off a week until that big out of state match-up in Week 2.

I can't help but wonder if Tim Racki had a hand in putting together MC's non-con schedule.

It is not the traditional out of conference schedule, but despite some very good talent, this is a rebuilding year for MC. With LA and BR having very good teams and PC and SR poised for a rebound, I think they are trying to secure the 5 wins to make the playoffs...my 2 cents only.

Most teams would die for a MC rebuilding year team. Probably better than 80%* of the balance of the state.

* disclaimer that percentage pulled directly from my backside

Plus MC just opened w 8A runner up Marist and Defending and eventual PA champ St Joe's last 2 years. Also Marist turned Down MC in '16 and '17 week 2 both at Marist.

Obviously MC wins 7A in '17 but this year who knows. Will start around 12-14 underclassmen.Have a new QB who is only a soph etc. Playing LA Montini both 14-0 last year, Rice has beaten them twice in a row, PC won't be 3-6 again etc.

They would have to pay me to watch that game. Why not just schedule Jimmy Carter H.S.? They could hand out a bag of peanuts for every kid carted off the field.

That game would be interesting if the men (now 68) from those teams suited up in 1966 equipment and knocked each other around for 60 minutes. Plenty of EMS staff and defibrillators on hand, of course. Was MC63 a freshman that year?

Although not in line with this "Best of the Best" thread (belonging instead to a thread that could be entitled "Strangest of the Strange"), is LincolnWay West at Proviso West opening night. I had to pinch myself at the time of reading that one.
