Coach of the week for me is Andy Bitto. Lose your best running back for the season, lose a heartbreaker at home and you still muster up enough to beat a powerful ND team.

Player

Griffin Gawenda Grayslake North

23 Carries, career best 207 yards and a score - and he's a back up.

Rich Petroski of St Joes - five wins, first time in school history - equals the total number of wins of the program '01-'11.

Brian Cooney, Oswego Panthers leading his team to a win this week against Oswego East. Several people had Oswego losing to OE, and we held them to field goal, OE a team that normally averages more than 40 points a game.

how about back-up running back Joey Stutzman for LZ, 5-6 160 pound junior? Rolled up almost 250 yards against Lake Forest. Plays both ways and special teams. He refuses to get tackled, most times it takes 3-4 defenders to bring him down and he drags them and pushes the pile every time. Can barely get up after runs like that, and yet when the ball is snapped the next play he does the same thing, the entire game. Impressive.

I believe pat jennings the coach at thornridge deserves coach of the week. For the first time since Quinn Buckner played in 1971 they're 5-1 to start the season thornridge beat Stagg at their homecoming to snap a 7 year conference road losing streak

In the last three weeks the Plano Reapers have dominated their rival, came back from 21-0 to beat Manteno for their first win at Manteno since 2007, and beat Coal City Friday 35-7 at home for their first home victory vs. Coal City since 2006. I nominate Coach Kunz for this and all the other things he does to help his kids get noticed by colleges. I nominate for the player of the week Carlos Martinez who had 20 tackles vs. Coal City and led the D to only allowing 119 yards of total offense. Thank you for your considerations.

For player I vote for Dino Borelli.

How much better would the LWW program have been last year and this year if he had stayed at LWW - good kid/great QB

For coach I agree with Pat Jennings at Thornridge. He should get Coach of the Year votes if he gets that team in the playoffs, no matter what their SOS is. From back in the days of the old SICA conference, this is a team that has always struggled to get 1 - 2 wins a year. 5 - 1 is a great accomplishment.

Note: If Billy Bundy from Thornwood (4 - 2) makes the playoffs , he should get some votes also. With Stagg and Thornridge still on the schedule, they have a shot as well. Nice to see some of the perennial SWSC conference doormats having great seasons.
