Weird basketball season

Hard to call games so far this season. Purdue, hyped for blowing out Virginia, falls by 14 points to a mediocre Nebraska team today.

And although there is still plenty of time left in the game, Minnesota had opened up an 11-point lead on Ohio State last I looked.

B1G teams have been unreal at home this season. You're never going to finish high in a league if you don't defend the home court, but that seems to be true more than ever so far this year.

Washington doesn't play for Ohio State, K. Wesson gets into foul trouble, and the Gophers take down the Buckeyes. Top 5 teams now 0-3 on the road in the B1G so far this season.

I believe that ALL teams are 0-fer on the road in the Big Ten thus far. Some of that is down to home teams playing great; I suspect it has some to do with officiating. I expect that to be tested by Wednesday night.

Yup, home teams are 13-0. I certainly don't think it was officiating for Penn State-Maryland and Ohio State-Minnesota, both of which I saw. Maryland and Ohio State were simply outplayed for long stretches of those games. You do definitely need to bring your "A" game on the road in the B1G.

a mediocre Nebraska team today.

They've grown. I saw the Neb/IU game live at Assembly Hall. Their guards seem to have a very fair amount of confidence. Their problem is lack of size. They would have won the game easily if they were not out-rebounded by 20.

Both teams played mediocre defense. Makes it more likely we can steal a W against them.

They probably will improve over the season. Purdue has fallen off on offense a lot this season. I wasn't overwhelmingly impressed with them when I saw them against Northwestern. I wasn't shocked they lost at Nebraska, but the 14-point margin surprised me.

I'm happy for Rutgers, which has beaten Wisconsin and Seton Hall at home. Pikiell seems like a really good coach and their team plays tough. The RAC also seems like a sneaky tough place to play, like the W-R in 2017 and a few other moments.

I think Rutgers is pretty good, but the SHU was a bit of a fluke. Their second best player and top big was injured and did not play. All American Myles Powell played injured and only played 15 minutes.

Without those two, SHU is not very good.

Rutgers has some good athletes, though, and will be tough to beat at their place.

It wasn't a fluke. Single digits have decided twenty of the last twenty-three games between Rutgers and Seton Hall. Records mean very little since this is a rivalry.
