Roundup: Families of Faith Christian Academy to start football program
Chanson school plans to field team in 2016

By: STAFF REPORTS
CHANNAHON – Families of Faith Christian Academy in Channahon has been dreaming of the day when it would finally be able to field a football team.

That wait is about to end.

The private Christian school has announced its plan to field a tackle football team in the fall of 2016.

“We are so excited to finally be able to make this announcement,” athletic director Kenton Ayers said. “There’s still a ton of work to be done, but we’re ready and are moving forward rapidly.”

The fall schedule will be a mix of public and private schools.

“We’re not in a position to join a conference yet and the other schools in our conference do not offer football. So we’re going to go alone and play whoever we can get.”

Families of Faith is a private Christian school in Channahon with a total enrollment K-12 of approximately 150 students. The growing athletic program includes girls volleyball in the fall, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball. Students in fourth grade and up are allowed to participate in all of the offerings except baseball, softball and the newest addition, football.

For athletics, the school participates in the Illinois Athletic Conference. So far this year, the school finished second in the conference in junior high volleyball, third in varsity volleyball, second in women’s basketball, third in boys basketball and the JV boys team won the conference basketball championship. The baseball team is hoping to improve on its second-place conference finish last season. Softball is in its second season and looking forward to improving within the conference as well.

“We have steadily grown over the years and have grown more rapidly the last couple of years. Our belief is that adding football will help us grow more rapidly and as we grow and the demand supports it, we will continue to add more new sports to our offerings. I can see soccer coming soon, cross country, maybe bowling and or golf and at some point lacrosse,” Ayers said.

Open enrollment is underway at the school and new students who are enrolling to play football will be eligible for some tuition discounts this fall.

Information about the school, or the football program can be found on their web site at fofca.com or by calling 815-521-1381.

Seven game schedule, two of which are at home, six of which are against OOS schools, and two of which are against the same OOS school.

Regardless, it's good to see a school buck the trend and start up a new program.

I think they picked up Illinois School Deaf so they have 8 games unless ISD dropped football.I know they had only 16 kids last year.Sad to see.ISD had some good teams.
