Well, at least we didn't lose...

It happened. CSU shot their asses off and almost won. Now on to Dayton.

Agreed but if you watch the tape, it was truly concerning how CSU could play 5 guards against us (they went on their run when they took out their big men entirely, who were doing zero for them), get open looks, and get a number of offensive rebounds. Dayton might decide to go smaller and quicker vs. us as well, and they have far more talent than Chicago State..

Dayton doesn't really have a Center. They go 8 deep with a couple of good players hurt. Their line-up goes (points per game) 6'0" (8), 6'2" (14), 6'2" (3), 6'4" (4), 6'5" (20), 6'7" (6), 6'8" (7), 6'9" (8). So they match up pretty well with NU. I doubt they take 21 points off the floor and go small.

Agreed, and that is good news for us, since it seemed like our defense was solved when CSU went small. I imagine Collins will adjust, though, since most likely the first thought was that teams would go larger against us without Pardon and basically force Benson to play, which is what Chicago State tried to do early(and was ineffective)

Presenting a budget is the job of the legislature and Madigan has made sure it isn't happening

I agree with you, although I'm a Democrat. Madigan i.e, entrenched cronyism, is what happens when you don't have a meaningful two party system. His daughter seems somewhat more reasonable, but she can't run for higher office until her old man leaves which is never happening unless he gets indicted.

Is this a basketball messageboard?

Yup. But sometimes real world issues intersect with sports. Like what's going on with Chicago State. Their situation is in the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times just about every week. You could probably go over to the football board and ask the same question about the threads discussing criminal justice laws and the Minnesota football player suspensions.

Sports is not played in a vacuum.

You are right. I am/was a total new junkie, especially since moving overseas 10 years ago--a way to stay connected to my being an American. But, sadly, I have been avoiding news and a lot of social media since the election. It was just too upsetting. Letterboxd and Rivals have been safe havens for me. I need to work myself back into the real world. Apologies.

No worries! I was a little sanctimonious and probably over the top re: asking for the Speaker of the House to be indicted. We cool!

We have a pretty long-standing tradition here that despite the inevitable intersections, we keep any hint of a political opinion off the sports boards and instead carry those conversation out on the Rant Board (which is actually one of the few places on the internet I've encountered where right and left talk to each other in a mostly reasonable way). You are all welcome to come join us (unless you don't agree with all my opinions ;))

True but as 7th Cir. said the situation at CSU and the suspensions at Minnesota are or at least should be talked about on a sports board that relates to their sport.

Shouldn't give up 64 points, imo, to a team that routinely scores in the 40s and 50s against D-1 competition.
Last season CSU finished 0-14 in the WAC, and only won 4 games overall. By average of multiple computer rating systems CSU ended ranked about 330 out of 350 D1 teams (bottom 20 of 350).

I doubt they have recruited so well to have jumped more than a few spots, if any, over the off-season. So, they are almost certainly in the bottom 10 % of D1 College BkB.

For a B1G team with post-season aspirations to come within 2 shots from losing to such a team is a DISASTER.

Let's not sugar-coat it!

I like to congratulate Wrassler for breaking his own Rivals record for number of consecutive posts in a thread without anyone replying or otherwise posting. Well done!
