Maybe this is extreme...but it feels to me like something is wrong for Jah and this could be a cry for help. I don't know who is around him but something/someone familiar would be a good idea to have around this kid at all times right now.

The dude is young and is making a boat load of money. When I was his age I was not making what he was making but I was making similar mistakes from time to time. Now the next few years or so will shape the rest of his life and he needs to grow up fast. Just like I and I am sure many here had to as well. Remember we were all 19 at one point. Jahlil made some mistakes, he owns that but he also has a chance to learn from it.

If I made that much money at 19, I doubt I would be alive today...

Not the right move but how many of us done the same stupid **** at that age. We are not in the spotlight like Big Oak is. That's the only difference.

Holy drama queen...

We are talking about a kid who seemed as grounded as any freshman I can remember.

Now he gets caught driving 108 mpg (no one has Jay Williams flashbacks there?) and getting in two altercations...one of which potentially involving a gun in his face and you don't find that alarming?

I read an ESPN mag article on Jah that came out before all of this and it sounded a lot like a kid who has too much on his shoulders.

Unfortunately we are too quick to blow things off and realize after the fact that signs were pretty obvious something was wrong.

Young kid has become a multi millionaire over the past 6 months....gets in a little bit of "trouble" and it's a cry for help? Come on man! Maybe, just maybe he needs to grow up a bit. Nothing more!

True...and every year at least 30 kids get multi-year contracts with money they've never seen and yet very few get on ESPN front pages by driving 108 or getting a gun pointed at their face.

Again...this isn't just any "kid"...Jah represented everything in the top 10% of what we say we want from a kid/student at Duke...a place where we are lucky enough to have great people come through the program.

Maybe he is just being a stupid kid...as we all were...but ask any of us before the season who out of the 60 draftees would be having trouble off the court and Jah would've been bottom 1 or 2.

I hope it's nothing...but IMO anyone who actually cares about the kid will take it a little more serious. Jah sounds overwhelmed with everything that is surrounding him...on and off the floor.

tim, Somewhere along the path I think there were some others who have gotten speeding tickets long before Okafor did. I will venture to guess many here got the same things when they were that age and didn't have millions in there bank account. Because Jahlil was in an altercation in Boston that made headlines, things like being ticketed for driving too fast come to light. Had it not happened, nobody would say anything about a speeding ticket. Not defending Okafors transgressions but to call them a cry for help based off of things that many normal TEENAGERS do (speed, get into disagreements that may sometimes end up a physical fight) means that we have a lot of cries for help in this country.

This will either be a learning experience that will benefit him for the rest of his life, or the beginning of another tragic tail of wasted talent. From what we have seen from Jah in the time Duke was recruiting him, and even more so while he was playing at Duke, I feel confident it is the former.

What a load of crap! Yep, because I think the kid drove a little too fast and went to a nightclub I don't really care about Jahlil. Sorry I don't think the kid needs a counselor or psychiatrist because he got a damn speeding ticket.

^ I wouldn't say it's a total load of crap. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a trend here with Jah the last six months. I'm not saying he needs help or it's a cry for help, but I think it's equally as foolish to just blow it off and say he's young, I did the same things when at his age, there's nothing to see here, etc. Jah has been a bit of an idiot here lately....it's time for him to grow up. That's all.

I'm sure Coach K got in touch with Jah. That's not the same as a immediate family member, but K cares, K cares a whole lot. I would guess K called Jah and they talked. Hopefully Jah gets things started down the right path.

Isn't there another thread wherein we're all expressing our disappointment in some of his recent choices? It seems like his stepping up and taking responsibility for it is a positive we should encourage and support.

Someone mentioned choices of the last 6 months. I'm only aware of the recent fight, the speeding incident, and the gun-pointing thing, all of which have happened since October. What else has there been?

I'm not defending Jah in anyway. Take it from someone who lost their mother at a young age (20)...it does a whammy on you. I know he was way younger but it's hard to explain. I can't say that what he did is right but I do believe it is a cry for help. I just hope he can get a handler who can get him in check before he pisses it all away

What is that old saying, "youth is wasted on the young". Seems like he might need to surround himself with some people that can help keep him grounded.

Oh, I definitely agree with that. I am not however ready to throw the dude under the bus because he is has made some young decisions. I have been there and can understand. I hope he finds the right way and doesn't mess up a gift that is so rare in this world.

He's agreat player there's no denying that. But he plays on the awful 0-18 76ers. I think he's still a little bitter not going number 1. That being said give him time he will figure it out. I just think this is growing pains for him

I seriously doubt he is bitter. I am sure he wanted to go #1, and who wouldn't? I think he is having a good time with his new fame and fortune. You are right, he needs to figure it out.

It's a load of crap when said poster says "anyone who actually cares about the kid will take it a little more serious" Did he make idiotic choices? Yes. Does he need to grow up a bit? Yes. Is it "a cry for help" LMFAO at anyone who thinks it is.

That's not a total load of crap. Jah's family and friends, who I assume care for him, definitely better be taking it serious. Look....I get he's young. I get that I did stupid things when I was young too. That's not the point. I'm here today to say I did stupid things. One of my best friends from high school isn't. So what's my point? While I can preach and say I did a lot of stupid **** when I was young, many aren't here anymore to say the same thing because the stupid **** ended or ruined their lives. That's my point.

Like I said....an idiot. That 2nd video of fight #2 is even more embarrassing to watch as a Duke fan. He was 2' away from getting in a car and had people trying to make him get in the car to keep him out of more trouble. Knocked two guys out in one night. Maybe he should have went into MMA instead of the NBA. Not to mention busted a glass out of a store during the fight.

Okafor is starting make Demarcus cousins look like a choir boy. It's sad cause okafor he is a good player but he's just barely one step ahead of a guy like Johnny manziel. The 76ers need him bad him and Noel are there best players the team is very young and need to come together
