That has to be a doctored photo. Muschamp was never that thin.

I seem to recall we never had a good offense under Muschamp. Think he had 3 different OCs. I'm not sure that even Spurrier's offenses were great. But, I'd take them today.

It doesn't matter what I want. Beamer is coming back for his 6th and final season.

I miss the Shoney's breakfast bar.

Oh, man, I have the best memories from the Shoney's on Garner's Ferry from back in the 1980s when I was a kid. Didn't have much money, so we didn't go out often, but 2-3 times a year we made our way to Shoney's and it was an absolute treat. My folks would take us on our birthday and they would each get a cup of coffee and let us get the free hot fudge sundae in the awesome frozen metal cup (or a hot fudge cake). And, yes, the breakfast bar. If we went any other time besides the free birthday dessert, it was on a Friday night and they would put their breakfast bar out Friday nights (IIRC). Thought that was the absolute best thing in the world. We'd stay out super late...or what felt late to me. I'd swear it was 3 am, but I think we were probably by like 9 pm.

Was in Columbia maybe 10-15 years ago and went there for old time's sake and it was awful.

The only offensive bright spot to Muschamp's tenure was Nick Harris in 2020, who led the SEC in rushing yards under Bobo at OC. As much as UGA people crap on Bobo, he's an above average OC and Beamer's stint here would've gotten off to a MUCH better start had Bobo stuck around.

Did Beamer show Bobo the door or did Bobo jump ship because he knew what was coming?

I don't think we ever got a definitive answer. Remember, he went to Auburn along with Mason at DC for what turned out to be a disaster hire of Harsin. Then Kirby brought him on as an analyst before moving him to OC when Monkon bolted for the NFL.

Tanner should have made him head coach. He has an offensive mind, knows the recruiting territory, is known as a good qb coach and had some head coaching experience even if his head coaching record wasn't great (Colorado State has always been terrible, Bobo should have never taken the job).

I don't think he would have done any worse than Beamer has done.

Minus a few games here & there, what Spurrier offered us was a chance to win every time we lined up. Sure there were some head scratching losses along the way, but when he had that thing humming his last few years… damn, it was a sight to behold. I would pony up a big donation to see that visor on the sidelines again.

Yep, we are going to piss away an entire season. Just because that's what you're supposed to do.

No strategic thinking allowed.
Why do we hire a failed SEC Head Coach (Muschamp) and follow that mitigating failure by hiring someone who has never been even thought highly enough to have been made an OC or DC, much less a Head Coach ANYWHERE (Beamer)? What kind of idiots do we have at the University of South Carolina? I feel for Donati. He is not a "da". He can see, as well as you, I and most gamecock fans see, that Beamer is over his head. He has been put in a tough spot. I would be shocked if he has not been in contact with wealthy donors to get their thoughts on this situation. It could be that those donors are saying they will chip in, but want to wait a year when the buyout is smaller. I don't know. I am confident though that when Donati gets the chance, he will bring in a competent, proven and successful Head Coach to replace our highly paid glorified cheerleader.

And don't be surprised that Shula comes back in order to save money. His contract runs to the end of 2027. We will want to use that money to buy out Beamer. Besides, with Beamer's record on hiring OCs, does anyone have confidence in his ability to bring in a quality OC? I don't.

Easy fix: retain Shula in the senior offensive assistant role he had last season. Maybe he has some value there (doubtful) but it's not a total humiliation for him and maybe Beamer could bring himself to make that move.

It's already been a total humiliation. Or should be.

I don't know the Shula contract. My guess is that Donati will want to save money anywhere he can to buy out Beamer next year. Besides, I have no confidence in Beamer replacing Shula with a competent OC. We are talking about someone who made Lonnie Teasley OL coach and gave him a huge raise this past January. He hired Satterfield, who was demoted from OC, by Matt Rhule, one year into the job. he brings in Loggains, who was called the worst OC in the NFL. He hires Shula. We have been blown out at home twice this season. We will be blown out by Bama, Ole Miss and TAM, finishing, at best, 5-7. The word will travel in college football circles that Beamer's seat is blazing hot. Do we pay a new OC? A new OC will want big bucks and a long-term contract. Or do we stick with the old, save money and show Beamer the door next year? It's not an easy call because it's so obvious that Beamer is over his head.

No. It is mostly the idiotic 30 million dollar buyout. The BOT should all be fired for approving that.
Where is that number on Beamer's buyout? All I can find is his buyout to us of $5 million if he terminated the contract.

His previous contract called for us to pay him 65% of remaining salary if fired without cause. I just can't locate buyout details for the current contract.

Next year we go to Bama. We go to Florida and Arkansas, which will probably hire top of the line coaches after this season's failed coaches. We entertain Georgia and Tennessee. We go to Oklahoma and Clemson. I think Beamer, to quote the late, great Dizzy Dean, is a dead duck.

I do not have details on his new contract, just memory from comments on it.

If I recall correctly, the buyout is still the 65% amount, its just that the salary and number of years were extended. Making the 65% a higher number.

Why did we hire someone that’s never been an OC or DC? Because Clemson and it worked for him. Beamer is a cheerleader just like Dabo but without the championship wins.

A cheerleader-type coach can work if you have primarily an ACC schedule. In the SEC, you better have coaching chops.

There's still a Shoney's in Hartsville. They do an excellent job. They still haven't resumed late hours since Covid.

So total contract is about 42 million after his season. We owes 65% of that or about 28 million. Plus we need to buyout all assistants likely another 8 million. He is already too expensive for us to fire.
