If he paid for a meal what can actually be done? And who exactly is the guy?
If i read correctly he’s an agent. You can meet with an agent, there is nothing illegal about that. If we are talking about a meal, i mean, again from Dukes standpoint what can be done there? Nothing. But that is getting into the weeds. Basically the NCAA would have to go through do their own research and figure it out. Again, i wouldn’t be too worried about it, we normally do our due diligence but is there really any way to stop this type of thing?

Why are you guys so sure it was JUST plane tickets and meals? I honestly don’t know, the yahoo article said met with and had meals with the agent. Also even if it was just that, won’t that still make Carter ineligible?

He didn’t even say if he had a meal or not. They just list a bunch of players and said these players and or their families may have met with or had a meal with (not necessarily paid by) this person. From our standpoint there is zero here, zero. His mom had a meal with the agent- the bill was $106 according to the spreadsheet. That is on her....meaning she either paid for whatever she had, or it’s on her to pay back her portion.

Now if your school has a kid listed here and there are thousands of dollars attached to it- that would be a concern because it means your school didn’t do their due diligence.

And as said before it isnt illegal to meet with an agent.

You are correct timo! Hopefully the compliance department is up to date on everything.

Stole this from the main board:

Tip of the iceberg. This is just agency money from one place. There are other agents and then the shoe money still to come. No one is safe at this point. Personally, I don’t mind blowing the whole thing up so we can quit pretending this is amateurism.

If you look, isn’t this balance sheet from 2016 and wouldn’t that make Carter a Junior in high school?

Tony Bradley's on that list, yet ol Roy says he's not worried....Actually thats probably the best security for Duke. If Bradley is found guilty of something that banner has to come down right??? Lol, we know thats not happening- Duke's in the clear....

don't think it's a huge deal, but i think the issue comes with carter still playing ... the safe approach would be to sit him until it's investigated, but how long does an investigation last? since he's a OAD does he just go ahead and call it a year?

No thats an admission of guilt, and I see no reason for him to stop playing.WAY too much yet to play out....

Doesn't say the agent paid for the meal like it did with Bridges. It just listed players/family Dawkins had meals with.

That's what I'm thinking. We have tips of people wanting to shoot schools up but we spend years in this crap. It's a joke and who cares about a meal really
The NCAA and the schools themselves make so much cash off these guys. I get that you have to have strict rules to maintain amatuerism, but meals? When I was a Federal employee we had clear rules about impermissible benefits to protect our responsibilities to the taxpayer, but we could receive up to a 25 dollar meal and accept small gifts. We were certainly allowed to accept a plane ticket or a waiver for the cost of a meeting to go speak about our research. Once at the meeting, we were not allowed to get massages, personal favors or free casino money. There were common sense rules for that kind of stuff. The NCAA is so messed up. The whole system is a farce.

$106 lunch.... How is this even of concern? What if Carter's mom gave this agent cash and he pockets it and put the entire meal on his bill.

I mean there's so many variables here, doesn't seem like anything that will have any legs.

This seems like a colossal waste of taxpayer money though.
If that’s all Duke is involved in this mess I’m good, because it isn’t illegal to have a meal bought for you. NC State, UK, should be very worried. Seems like some of their players took the most money.

Haha go look over at THR. They are literally too dumb to notice that Carter and Bradley are accused of essentially the same thing. They lump Carter in with DSJ and Bam
I saw that. Can’t fix stupid. You’re going to see some gross over reactions on every board, ours included.

If Tony Bradley and Wendell Carter were meeting with an agent and got a paid meal I really don’t see how that costs either school wins.

It could only cost them if the money was not paid back in a timely fashion.

I am curious as to how tomorrow goes. If we see Carter playing then I think the Duke compliance people have said "we are good". If he does not play...

Josh Okogie was suspended 6 games for receiving impermissible benefits of $750, while Tadric Jackson was suspended 3 games for benefits valued at $525. If it's only $106, that should be like a two tv timeout punishment.

The yahoo article didn't state he was seeking reimbursements from that bottom list of players Carter and Bradley were in. Maybe he didn't pay for their meals.

By NCAA rules: “in which the value of the benefit is $200 or less, the eligibility of the student athlete shall not be affected conditioned upon the student athlete’s repayment of the benefit to a charity of his or her choice”

Duke, UK, Texas etc. most of us knew this was going on, the ones who didn’t were just dumb fans who bought their school was the only one squeaky clean
