There's been quite a shift in franchise ownership. They pushed out the older smaller operators in favor of the bigger Franchisees. Those who only had a couple or a handful of units, didn't have or want to spend the money to renovate or update the stores, they had some pretty shoddy units. Now that they've got all that squared away, they're now pushing to bring in more minority and women owners, they drastically reduced their requirements to become a franchisee and helping them with development agreements and costs. The push is to open new units. The Franchisee i'm...errrr...."familiar with" will be opening 15 new units in the next 4 years.
There is truth about staff turnover and staffing problems in general contributing to the problems, but I don't think that's isolated to Wendy's.
