Headed downhill? Its been fav' for years but getting terribly inconsistent -- last time the lettuce on the chicken sammie was about the size of a Quarter , today it was a cold fish sandwich for lunch . Just my local place floundering or is the quality doing downhill quick ?

They have the worst fries in FF unless you use them as your frosty spoon.
They changed them recently and they’re infinitely better. I would only eat their old fries with a side of cheese sauce. I still get the cheese sauce but I enjoy the few I eat out of the bag on the way home now.

I don't eat fast food that much but in my experience Wendy's has generally been the best non-Chik-fil-A chain that is widely available in these parts.

I think that used to be the case. But to the OP's point, they have gone downhill over the last few years. Service sucks, portions are smaller and quality dropped off. It now seems bottom of the barrel.

Yes, I have noticed as well here in birmingham. Hardly anyone in the drive thru lane and it takes forever to get food.
-recently they only accepted cash
-were out of frosties

seems like things have changed big time

The one that opened on South Broadway in Lexington a couple of years ago was so bad I quit even trying.

Frosty machine was broken, car line was glacial while inside was closed, order wasn't right, credit card machine was broken....

I tried about 5 times and it was a pain in the *** each time. Haven't been back in probably a year.

The $1 SEC or BEC biscuit deal they have going right now is the best around. I normally have pretty good luck at Wendy’s. The one on Nich Rd in Lexington is usually fairly consistent. The 4 for $4 is great for a quick easy lunch.

A few years ago I went there and bought a classic single or whatever the hell it was called because I had a coupon to buy one, get one free. Ended up still managing to cost like nearly $4 and the burgers were complete garbage. Haven't been back ever since.

Wendy’s Fries used to be great and then they went and ruined them in 2010 with the ones with the skin still on them. Their most recent are much better but still aren’t as good as the originals.

Wendy’s fries are only good if you ask them to make them extra crispy. Pretty good after that.

When they were $0.99, they were the best nuggets by far. Still pretty tasty.

Alexandria Drive Wendys is still pretty quick. They have good workers and they’re polite. Pretty rare outside of Chick-fil-A and the toothless lady at the Northside KFC.

I used to get their baked potato and it was a good, standard restaurant sized potato. I tried one recently that looked like it was from the cheap bag at Save a Lot. They could at least make the container smaller so it wouldn’t look so sad.

My family loves Wendy’s so I stick with the chicken cesar salad and it’s always pretty good.

Used to be able to get a freshly grilled burger there but they joined the ranks of McD and BK and precook them, then keep them in steam trays. Culver’s has good, fresh grilled burgers though.

Burger King used to have a fresh off the broiler button on the register.

Their spicy chicken sandwich is good, and their chili is pretty good too. Not too big on their fries.

OT- sometimes I get a random mood for long John's so I can have greasy ***** and stomach aches. Lol. Is the one on versaillles rd the only one left?

I know a guy here in southern Ohio . Thats where I am for work now
Ahh, not sure who the southern Ohio franchisees are or if they are corporate stores. Let's just say I'm VERY familiar with an entity that owns close to 200 of them and at one point owned many more than that. I could have made your complaints heard.

You talking about the one that was co-branded with the A&W? That's been gone for a bit now, it's already something else. There are still a number of them in and around the Louisville area. Not sure about Lexington.

I eat Wendy's fairly regularly......it's one of my main fast food places.....when I eat fast food. I tend to bounce between 3 locations mainly. I haven't noticed any downhill trends.

To the OP's point about quality, it's probably got a lot to do with employee turnover, the quality of workers AND managers.
Even if the complaint was heard, theres probably not a hell of a lot that can be done in this labor market.
I frequent Dunkin almost daily here in BG for coffee and i don't know how many times they have failed to make it as i ordered but ive got to where i don't complain just glad somebody showed up to work.
The manager said they start new people daily.

25 years or so ago BK had maybe the best fries. Then they had a big Mr Potatohead ad campaign and announced they were changing them. They have sucked ever since.
Back in the mid 90's, when I was in the Air Force, I used to hit up the BK on base when I had some errands to run on my lunch. I'd get 2 large fries and a large chocolate shake. It was something easy to eat in the car while driving. I'd dump both fries into the bag, pour in some salt, and shake it up real good. Man those were some good fries. Now they are only so so.

Seems like hardly anywhere has good fries these days. McDonald's has some good ones if made right. Unfortunately, they usually are cold, greasy, or don't have any salt on them. Nothing worse than fries that don't have salt added when they first come out of the fryer. You just can't get salt to stick to them very well after the fact when the oil has completely dried.

A family contact owns 35 or so here in my hometown .. I can moan to him but like other have said .. when the employees suck and their isn't much interest in doing it right you get mediocre / inconsistent product and service . PS I think my friend actually bought 20-30 more in the Carolinas somewhere .. his son moved there to manage the region/district

There's been quite a shift in franchise ownership. They pushed out the older smaller operators in favor of the bigger Franchisees. Those who only had a couple or a handful of units, didn't have or want to spend the money to renovate or update the stores, they had some pretty shoddy units. Now that they've got all that squared away, they're now pushing to bring in more minority and women owners, they drastically reduced their requirements to become a franchisee and helping them with development agreements and costs. The push is to open new units. The Franchisee i'm...errrr...."familiar with" will be opening 15 new units in the next 4 years.

There is truth about staff turnover and staffing problems in general contributing to the problems, but I don't think that's isolated to Wendy's.

Was going to message you but I guess that a premium content thing .. Its not a secret so I dont think mentioning his name is an issue - My friend is Scott Schmidt , son Juice ( real name ??? ) runs the stores in the Carolina they purchased last year . For all I know they may own closer to a 100 stores now . Own the local BW's as well . Nice family , I was close to the other son for a while .
