Northwestern Basketball fans in 1967, the last time we won 4 big ten games in a row? I wasn't even born yet, so can't say that I was a fan...

Yes

I was a sophomore, attended almost every game. And I had a couple of friends on the team

I was only 12 but I was a fan and went to a game that year with my dad. I wore a Willy pin to school.

A pin for your Willy? Or a pin of Willy?

Was it a classic skinny retro Willy with the long claws? That's the best Willy of all Willys out there! I wish they would seriously bring that back.

Yup, I was there when NU crushed Ohio State 100-77 to start the Big Ten 4-0. That was a few days after the big blizzard of "67 and just after we met UCLA and Lew Alcindor in the Chicago Stadium, where I believe we led at halftime before fading.

NU basketball was pretty good during my four years '65-69. I did not miss a home game in 4 years. Gamber, Weaver, Kozlicki, Tiberi, Burns, Cummins, Davis , Burke, Saunders,Sutton, Hurley et al were part of the '67. I can't remember all the names. Pitts had graduated in '66. We had Adams, Kelly, Sarno, Bresnahan to follow

NU's Class of '67 was rated the best recruiting class in the country.

Larry Glass eventually resigned because he didn't win with this group

I believe my Class of '69 had a 4 year record over .500--not many NU grads can say that.

I believe recent graduating classes can say that.

Sure, I was. As an undergrad '61-'65, went to virtually every game in the old McGaw Hall (fieldhouse). Then in '67 entered grad school. Lived with a friend in the burbs then, and only went to a few games that year because I was driving cab part time mostly at night, squeezing in some studies when the fare meter wasn't running.

My best income week came during the blizzard when classes were called off and many cars were stranded or blocked in garages. Tips galore! And some $$ from shoveling out cars or pushing them out of the snowdrifts and onto the partially plowed streets.

Palindrome,

Like you, I was an undergrad '61 - '65 and attended almost all of the home games. Were you in attendance for Rich Falk's 49 against Iowa? How many would he have had if the 3 point field goal had been introduced by that time?

Don Adams went on to have a very nice career in the NBA. We beat Wes Unseld and Louisville during those years and I believe we were ranked in the top 20 with a 12-1 start the next season (beating some very good teams) until things imploded and Glass wound up quitting mid-season.

Glades,

I believe our non-conference schedules were smaller and tougher than recent schedules. I remember the heartbreaking OT loss to Kentucky, pounding Alcindor/UCLA only to eventually lose , traveling to NYC for the old Holiday Festival and having Art Stephenson (UMass) upset us

I think you are off by a year or two on the UCLA game at the stadium. I was at that game and I think NU was up 45-35 at half but when our center (Sarno I think) fouled out in second half it was over. But I got to NU in the fall of 68 so 68/69 season was the first one I saw.

I had a skinny Willie.... Wait that doesn't sound right. Oh heck I was only 12 and I was small for my age.

I think the NU v UCLA game was in my senior year '68-69. I believe we used 3 centers-Sarno, Sutton and ? to beat Alcindor up everytime he touched the ball

We almost won the game before it started when the entire UCLA team fell on the loose carpet over the ice surface leading to the court

We had a 10 point lead at halftime shooting less than 30% from the floor. Unfortunately, we got "cold" in the second half

I agree. I started at NU in 68 and I was at the UCLA game at Chicago Stadium. 45-35 sounds about right.
