Barring a collapse. Got to take care of business and win 3 more games to be safe.

To be comfortable, I agree.

But with a top 25 RPI road win in hand, 10-8 seems much more feasible, perhaps even a lock with a win in DC. That path would be Rutgers and Illinois + one of the lower tiers.

By the way, we are 8-4 in the conference now. Only would need to finish 2-4 to reach your goal of 10-8. How about 4-2 instead? That would make us 12-6.

Yeah, let's at least make sure we beat Rutgers first, lol. And one more win against anyone. Then hopefully one or two others just to leave no doubt. :)

That one punched the ticket.
I certainly hope that the team doesn't believe that, or that they are even close to having "clinched" an AL bid. Don't get me wrong: it's a GREAT win, and it will help A LOT.
But evidently, if the cats were to end in a 6-game losing streak, including losses to Rutgers and a 2nd to Illy (not to mention a second to Purdue, which wouldn't be that bad, but would hurt, plus losses to a couple of mediocre B1G teams), they cannot possibly expect a bid.
This bid is NOT EVEN CLOSE to being clinched.

That stuff the announcers were saying at the start about now the Big Ten has nobody in the committee's top 16 has me worried. Can't help it. NU fan.

Thankfully 64 teams are in the Dance. You can ignore that "top 16" exercise, it is a bunch of nonsense.

BIG announcers just essentially agreed with Lou's OP. Said we would have not lose out not to go.

I'm not sure how to handle a home loss to Illinois and a road win against Wisconsin in the same week.

Is what they do. Always one of nowhere upset, usually a few head scratching losses. Lets hope illinois was the only one for the year.

I can see the cats winning the conference or the btt. That would be amazing.

Well I will eat crow. I thought without Scottie we were toast. Thank heavens I was wrong. Hopefully Scottie is back for Maryland and let's go on a little winning streak to leave no doubt. Will be there on Saturday. Can't wait!!

Why do you even bother with comments like this? What is your point?

I feel sad for you. Truly sad. I think I'm going to go say a prayer for you and light a candle tomorrow for you.

You have one thing going for you. At least your family won't have to blow a lot of money on your funeral. Who's gonna show?

Lot of factors: a) the Illini played way over their heads, like due to a special motivation they has (keepihg Groce's job?) b) we have seen during the season that it takes time to adjust when a team loses their leading scorer c) Wisky has a long winning streak in then BIG and at home that was going to end eventually in this era of parity d) Wisky was playing with fire of late against lesser teams who couldn't finish, and they finally played a good team who could finish e) that OT win vs, Nebby just 3 days ago, combined with a long trip back to Madison, set up the game well for us.

If Sanjay, Pardon, Brown and Taphorn don't contribute offensively, we are going to lose most games. It's not a head scratching loss at all. We have played more consistently than almost any team in the conference but with Lindsey out, players other than Law and Bryant have to contribute meaningfully on the offensive end. And Illinois played very hard defensively and made plays at the end of the game. And Law and Bryant were gassed.

Taphorn made a huge difference tonight. He can be such a contributor out there with his three point shooting - and his length on defense.

Yeah, I think 2 more does it (w/ one being a win over UMD making it a virtual lock), as the field is projected to be fairly weak this season - even w/ a couple of B12 teams on the wrong side of the bubble making a late push (which is why the ACC is projected to get 10 teams into the Tourney).

What Felis wrote was tough to read, but I think he was correct. I was worried big time after the loss to Illinois that we had lost our excellent team play. This win puts a lot of my fears to rest...a win over a highly ranked team! Our defense was excellent. I'll take this win over Wisconsin over a win against Illinois at home, even though the Illinois loss was excruciating to watch.

Everything Felis writes is tough to read, which is why your Northwestern rivals experience improves immensely when you have him on ignore.

Having said that, he may be going after those of you who think two more wins gets NU into the tournament, and if he isn't, he should. Two more wins means 10-9 in Big Ten games, and 3-7 in the last 10. In a down year for the conference. That's probably an NIT team.

It was more on the D end that we got this victory. Yes we needed the O but we won on D. That was what was missing against IL. Held them to under 40%. 12 turnovers for WI vs 6 for us. Took away their inside game and forced them to beat us from outside.

I wish I shared your prediction. Too much basketball left but I like our chances. If someone else can beat wisconsin, then we control our own destiny. Illinois was one that got away.
I think two have to beat WI for us to control our destiny. They still only have two losses

Clarification Cat is right on the money. Pardon, Lumpkin, Skelly,Taphorn and Brown were outplayed by the Illini's bench of Michael Finke and Kilpper Nichols, who some may remember was heavily recruited by NU. Also, McIntosh was the floor leader and clutch today. 40 minutes and still had enough to seal the victory and love the long pass to Lumpkin for the emphatic dunk. I guess we violated an unwritten rule. Too bad they can't relate to the many years of frustration.
