Our 2025 season kicks off in Mercedes-Benz Stadium where we will take on Virginia Tech on Sunday, August 31 as part of the 2025 Aflac Kickoff.

Anybody know how many other college games are on that Sunday? This year, there was only one: The USC/LSU game. If it's the same this year, all eyes will be on us. Literally, all of them.

I love that we play really good teams but VT have the chance to be in the ACC championship next season. We already saw how the committee don’t care about how tough your schedule is. I’ll see you guys in ATL for the game though.

Any good hotels near Mercedes Benz stadium, if so what kind of money would I be looking at spending on a room that weekend for my wife, my kid and me?

I’ve stayed at the REVERB Hotel that is literally across the street. That was this past fall for the Atlanta United/Miami FC soccer game. Not sure what prices would look like for a college football weekend, but I think a room with two queen beds was about $150 a night or something like that.

Sorry to be that guy but....

We generally speaking suck in our openers. Not looking forward to it. Jmho.
Not always. One of the more fun games I've been to was the '17 opener in Charlotte against NC State. Deebo ran the opening kick back for a touchdown and the defense had a goal line stand to win the game.

And how can you not be looking forward to another football season?

VT will give us a win against a ranked opponent since VT is always vastly overrated to start the season. NC State is the other team that is always ranked to start the season but fades by about week 7.

Atlanta is a ******** and downtown Atlanta is the worst part of it.

Oh, I always look forward to the start of another football season.... I just think we should always, always, always open with a OOC cup cake.....
Especially now in the new "wins are everything" play offs.... I'd rather start the season with an 80% chance to win against a cupcake than to start with a 50/50 % chance against a stronger team. Now days, starting the season with an OOC loss would immediately put us behind the 8 ball....and why?? for what??? Makes zero sense.

That was the game that Meathead Muschamp, at halftime, screamed, "Coach Comm's fired!!!!" We had major headset issues the first half.

Well we started with a cupcake this year and almost lost lol.

Perhaps that proves your point.

Anyway, I like the matchup. Virginia Tech is an opponent who makes for an interesting game while also providing a team we should be able to beat. And the venue is phenomenal. Mercedes-Benz Stadium is by far the nicest stadium I've ever been to.

Does anyone know how to find out which sections of the stadium are Gamecock sections? I'm not finding any guidance from searching online

I work right around the corner from Mercedes Benz Stadium. Atlanta is fine. You just have to know where not to go, just like any other big city.
I guess if you like nightmarish traffic 24/7/365, crime, third world level govt corruption and never ending racial demagoguery then Atlanta is a great place.

Well, I get to work downtown at 6 am and am usually heading north on 75 by 3 pm, so I miss most of the bad traffic. The vast majority of the crime is in those "places not to go". The government corruption is embarrassing. It's always been a cesspool and anything the City of Atlanta officials get their grubby fingers on is ruined. I haven't witnessed the never-ending racial demagoguery myself, but I'm sure it's there same as it is pretty much anywhere. I do know that if you want all of those things, all you have to do is trot over to Little 5 Points and you can soak it all in. I had to run to Criminal Records last Monday to grab a record for my oldest son and boy that little slice of hell never disappoints :)

"Little Slice of Hell" would be a great name for a pizza parlor in little 5 Points.

I forgot to include the absolute worship of all things homosexual. Atlanta was a pretty cool place in the '80s and before. Traffic was an issue but only at certain times of the day i.e. rush hour and you could still get around and get wherever you needed to be in a reasonable amount of time. There were "places not to go" but overall the place was pretty safe.

After the Olympics the place seemed to explode and not in a good way.

Yep. The Olympics kicked the population/traffic over the cliff. I remember coming down here from the upstate and it was a breeze up until post-1996. I live up in the boonies away from this mess. I couldn't live down here, especially with kids. Too much going on.

You don't really live in Atlanta, you commute to Atlanta to work. There is a reason, many reasons actually, nobody chooses to actually live in Atlanta. Unlike many other large cities, Atlanta proper really isn't a place where people live, it is a place people go to and then go home from. Downtown Chicago, NYC, Dallas, Houston, Miami pretty much every other major city has a lot of people who actually live in the downtown areas. There are stores, shops, neighborhood restaurants, dry cleaners, night life, etc.. Atlanta doesn't have any of that. Downtown Atlanta is a homeless camp and urban crime hell scape with tall buildings and interstate highways running through it. No one in their right mind wants to be out walking around downtown Atlanta after dark. The Atlanta metro area is the poster child for unchecked suburban sprawl and all the problems it creates. The horrible traffic isn't only in Atlanta proper, it is everywhere in the metro Atlanta region. Atlanta is like a malignant tumor in the state of Georgia. It has metastasized, growing and consuming parts of the state that were considered their own towns and regions a few decades ago, even Athens is feeling the pain of Atlanta's sprawl.

I live in Augusta. We have plenty of our own problems but I think we have it better than Atlanta when it comes to quality of life.

A wonderful opportunity for the guys to play in the Falcons stadium to open the season and a great matchup for the fans. I love seeing different matchups aside from the typical out of conference games Carolina usually plays. This should draw a lot of regional/national interest, but especially in the Mid-Atlantic. I see Carolina opening as a 6.5 point favorite or so.

No - it was LSU/Southen Cal on Sunday.
