As we enter into crunch time - the final three weeks of the regular season, a time where teams (those who haven't clinched eligibility yet that is) fight and claw their way into the postseason, let's see how things shape up in the West Suburban Silver, with conference record listed first:

GW: 3-0, 6-0
HC: 3-0, 6-0
OPRF: 2-1, 3-3
YORK: 2-2, 3-3
LT: 1-2, 3-3
DGN: 1-3, 3-3
PW: 0-4, 0-6

GW & HC clinched state playoff berths last night and remain on track for the big showdown at Duchon Field in two weeks. Of course, PW is done after Week 9, so that leaves the remaining four teams vying for the playoffs.

Which teams are likely to get to 5 wins? Based on schedules, I feel OPRF has the best chance; the Huskies' next two games are against teams they match up well with - Homecoming versus DGN then at York. They win those two, they should make the playoffs. What OPRF doesn't want to have happen is if it loses one of the next two; that means the Huskies would need to knock off the Hitters in Week 9 to qualify. Trust me, they don't want that scenario, best to take care of business before then.

DGN has games left with OPRF, LT, and DGS

LT has games left with GW, DGN, and HC

YORK has games left with WB, OPRF, and PW

This is gonna be a dogfight the last three weeks.

The only wrinkle in the OPRF plan might be the game at York. York seems to play a little better at home, and if they lose at Willowbrook next weekend they may be a highly motivated team for OPRF...or they may roll over and be done for the season. I’d pick them at 4-5, but if they can (finally) sustain the running game that the showed against HC, they could win out and go 6-3. This team is a bit of a inconsistent mess this season.

DGN will probably hit 5 wins, but they are an underdog next week at OPRF. At this point, I’d think they are 5-4 for the season and have a shot at the playoffs.

LT has not demonstrated that it has what it takes to play in week 10. The odds are high for them to finish 3-6...sorry guys.

That leaves OPRF at either 4-5 or 5-4. The GW game in week 9 is problematic for the Huskies, which reduces OPRF’s season to the next 2 weeks. Go 2-0 and you play a week 10 game. Go 1-1 and the odds are the OPRF kids will be at basketball or wrestling practice on week 10 of the football season.

As for GW and HC, you all can analyze the point spreads for this game in week 8. HC is playing consistent, solid football right now. GW presents their opponents with many challenges on both sides of the ball, and expanded on one of those challenges last night at DGN (it’s now a really bad idea to kick deep to them). But anything can happen in HS football, and this is going to be a good game on a (frozen?) grass field in Glen Ellyn.

After Week 7, here's how things stand in the West Suburban Silver (in order of conference record, which is listed second):

GW: 7-0, 4-0
HC: 7-0, 4-0
OPRF: 3-4, 2-2
YORK: 3-4, 2-2
DGN: 4-3, 2-3
LT: 3-4, 1-3
PW: 0-7, 0-5

The HC at GW tilt next Saturday is gonna be epic. In my opinion, whichever team controls the line of scrimmage will win.

The OPRF at York affair is an elimination game in terms of state playoff contention. With both teams desperate, expect a very tight game. If the Dukes prevail, they'll make the playoffs because in Week 9 they have PW.

LT at DGN could be interesting as well. Trojans would love to get win #5 at home against the Lions (who are still alive BTW for a playoff berth themselves) and avoid having to beat crosstown rival DGS at DGS in Week 9. If DGN QB1 plays as well as he did last night at OPRF, I like the Trojans' chances.

Looking as if there could be three, maybe four Silver schools that make the playoffs.

I’ve seen HC play one game this season, have followed HC-related posts here on Edgy, and worked up comparative point differentials each week. In the upcoming game with GW, I’m having a hard time seeing how HC’s defense will match up with GW’s offense. The other side I’m pretty sure about. Every way I look at this game, it’s not really that close. I must be missing a piece of the HC puzzle.

Only real quality team is GBW. They roll HC.
