Nothing but Crickets.

I feel like I've been demoted to Frosh Football. Anyone got anything? Sorry Kitty...stole your thread this week. I'm addicted.

No worries Magnum. I too am feeling the crushing weight of not having anything to write about this week or look forward to this weekend.

It was a fun but ultimately disappointing season. Unlucky draw hurt us all. LWE/BR/Marist might be the three toughest teams in all divisions.

I guess that's the price we pay when we beat each other up.

Thanks again for managing this space kitty. Really enjoyed the camaraderie of the WSS this year

Sure thing. I'll have two dogs back in the hunt next year so I plan on doing it again next fall. And, per @Voodoo Tatum 21 's request, I'll be keeping track of everyone's picks.

Since WSS season is over I've got nothing much to contribute to the other threads. I am curious to hear what each team is bringing back.

I'd imagine GBW is going to reload like they do every year, I know HC is bringing back at least a couple OL and some solid skill position kids. I heard OPRF was very senior heavy, but bringing back a stud QB, which is a pretty good start to build around. Downers North also has a tremendous athlete coming back at QB, not sure what else though.

York is losing a lot of their skill positions. Of their offensive starters, both of their QBs are leaving, their primary ball carrier, 3/4s of their starting receiving corps. and their center. They bring back a pretty good RB a really solid WR and 4 pretty good, pretty big OL.

On Defense they lose 10 primary starters... that's going to be tough to replace.

However, York had quite a few injuries, and were able to get quite a few juniors into the game, both as starters, and for significant reps. So that gives them with 4-5 more returners who you could count as at least primary back-ups if not returning starters.

I'd love to hear what other teams are bringing back. Obviously next year is a long way off with plenty of time for kids to mature, grow, and dedicate themselves... so you never know what could change or who will show up come June. Not to mention current sophomores, or even freshmen who will surprise. But I'd still love to hear your individual takes regarding your teams.

HC loses one heck of a group of seniors. Couldn't possibly replace them. But the junior group coming back is pretty good.

The defense will bring back 3 DBs, one will be a third year starter; 2 LBs, both will be third year starters who've also gotten a lot of time on offense playing hack-back/wingback; one DE who started every game this year, plus another DE/DT who got a lot of PT towards the latter third of the season and impressed.

The offense brings back 2 OL, 1 WR (who led in receptions, yards and TDs), 1 RB (the younger Skokna who saw a decent amount of time this year), 1 HB different from the LBs mentioned above who was starting before a season ending injury.

Fwiw the QB will most likely be a junior who was up on varisty this year as QB2. I have a feeling he'll be pretty darn good.

HC sophs struggled this year but you might think that if QB2 was playing their season would have gone much differently. They have a couple good athletes who will have to put in serious work this off season and be ready to step up come June.

HC frosh A went 9-0 with average margin of victory around 40 pts. I imagine a couple of those guys will be ready for varisty ball assuming they put in the work this off season.

Hard to say how the team will turn out in terms of the 2019 8A field, but they'll almost certainly have enough pieces in place to challenge for the WSC Silver again.

Sorry I'm late to the party. But the WSS has been one of the Chicago area's best conferences year in and year out, and next year should be no different despite heavy graduation losses .

GBW? Chad Hetlet is a damn good coach, maybe one of the Chicago area's top 10.IMO - as 10 conference titles in 11 seasons attest. He just reloads the Hitters every year and I'd be stunned if they're not at or near the top in 2019.

HC and OPRF also lose plenty. But the Red Devils have a very good o-line returning, and the Huskies return both Jaden McGill at QB and Naz Bryant at RB. And like GBW, both teams have very good coaches in Dan Hartman and John Hoerster respectively, so you know they'll find a way to make lemonade out of lemons.

Anxious to see if DGN can take the next step. Really like their QB, but needs help.

York has a good system going now and I can see the Dukes making a run at the playoffs with a year of experience.

LT? Not sure what's going on with that program - the Lions have completely fallen off the radar .Proviso West always has good athletes, but not enough of them come out for football.

HC freshman class also had their B team go 8-1 FWIW. Will be a good athletic class in all 3 (main) sports moving forward.

No offense but I think HC Frosh are >.500 vs GW over the past 10 years. I remember a particularly toasty beat down at GW in 2011 where HC cracked 50 in the 3rd quarter.

GW’s game changes considerably on the varsity level with Hetlet calling the defense.

Understood. Wasn’t saying that HC was going to be better than GBW in the future (or anyone else for that matter), just that they are an athletic class and were able to field 2 full teams that both did pretty well. How it translates over the next 3 years is another story.

DGN will be a fun team to watch next year. They play hard and the QB is a load to hndle if they could put some more weapons with him.

Until someone dethrones GBW for an outright title, they will be the team to beat.

OPRF def was full of paymakwrs so I am anxious to see how they reload.

My boy played at LT a couple years ago so I am hoping they can reload. Freshman team has a ton of good looking athletes in addition to some nice players on the sophs. I would expect them to be very young next year with not a lot of help from the upcoming senior class.

That’s exactly how I felt when the Hitters and Neuqua opened round one a few years ago. A quarterfinal or semifinal matchup in round one.

Regardless, that was a great game.
