--Oklahoma State did a good job protecting their quarterback which defensive line coach Jordan Lesley expected. Effort was better in week two, but execution was not.

--Lesley believes he has to coach his guys better to avoid some of those misfits in the run game. It has to tie together, and they knew once they got a beat on how they were going to protect them they could have twisted all day and he doesn’t know if it would have mattered.

--Lesley said the misfits were on him and the coaches. Communication has to happen sideline to the field. It all works together but everybody’s responsibility is to make sure it is communicated once they see the formation. In those key situations they didn’t execute, and it was only four to five plays.

--The middle linebacker is the quarterback of the defense. He is the communicator; adjustor and he gets the wrong fits right. He is responsible for that side of the ball.

--Darius Stills had a good game Saturday, while Dante Stills had some flash plays. Darius is playing better right now but they gather the attention of everybody, and they should. The guys around them have to take that pressure off of them at times which isn’t happening right now. Darius Stills has been really good alignment and assignment wise, but he is the older brother, so you expect that.

--Sean Martin is a way away. He had a decent camp for a freshman but the contact tracing and being away makes it tough. Akheem Mesidor down the road has a chance to be a really good player. Quay Mays is starting to come around but didn’t have valuable time in the spring and summer. They’re all in catchup mode which is going to take some time.

--Middle of the second quarter on Saturday they had only played 15 plays defensively. Sometimes that’s the nature of a game. That led to some players not getting into the game against Oklahoma State. There were only around 22 plays at halftime. It was close in the second half, so they wanted the best players in there. How the game was playing out led to Jordan Jefferson not seeing the field.

--Secondary coach Jahmile Addae felt that they did O.K. in the backend but they have to be better in spots and play with situational awareness. You didn’t see a lot of catch and run, and they were able to make tackles immediately. The standard is as high as it can be, and you’ve got to get better at.

--Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer is a chain mover. He doesn’t necessarily wow with anything specifically, but he is really sound in all other areas. He has shown the ability to make all the throws and can move with his feet. He knows where to go with the ball and is savvy.

--Addae said that it’s about information gathering when it comes to preparation. They will dig back as far as they can in order to put together a decent game plan. They will look at North Carolina film to scout Fedora as well as the first game in order to make calls and coverages that they are comfortable with to call over the course of the game.

--Baylor has talented skill players and a guy that can make the throws. They have an offensive line that is improved, and they have to be prepared for everything.

--Tempo is in vogue. It’s used to catch defenses off guard because you want guys out of place and not doing what they’re supposed to be doing on a single play. They are expecting a fair amount to be used in this one to take advantage of that.

--Digging back they did have a beat on what Shane Illingworth was capable of and they had a good plan to defend him by looking at his high school tape.

--Offensive coordinator Gerad Parker did get some experience at Duke playing against Matt Rhule and what he did at Baylor. They built a good culture there and it has remained through the next coaching staff. They line up and their sound and the kids play hard.

--The defensive line is fitting things and playing sound. They have the look you want for a defensive line and have really played well.

--Redshirt sophomore wide Bryce Ford-Wheaton has had chances in games but has made a lot of positive strides. He is playing at a very high level right now. He now has to finish after he clears man coverage. He’s just involved in getting better instead of searching for results which will help him ascend and the offense become more explosive.

--You saw a bulk of RPO throws where Doege’s decision making was good. The one miss or the one drop or one misread collectively adds up to three or four things. A higher percentage, 80-percent of those, were numbers based and RPO based when it comes to the calls Saturday.

--Parkers assessment is that Leddie Brown has put himself in a position to be judged. He will continue to grow but he’s getting yards after contact and his eyes are getting better and better about where he wants to put the football. Now he is getting vertical and making people miss which is what he needs to continue to do if they want to effectively run the football.

--Anytime you go into any game being able to protect the passer is a big conversation. The protection plan will be critical this week. They’ve got to have a good plan protecting.

--You have to put the wide receivers in position to compete for contested catches at 50-percent or better. They have to beat man coverage at 80-percent or better. If you can win at that rate and complete it, catch it and finish it you can have a lot of success.

--Sam James struggled to get off press coverage but was in a tough matchup. Parker doesn’t think he would play that way again in those situations. Nobody takes responsibility more than Parker there, but they want to give him a plan to have success.

--With Winston Wright he has good top end speed and a good plan. That has now payed off for him and they expect more from him at a higher level. He was really good at the top end of it. The junction point was one inside but they need to do that across the board.
