--West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins felt that it was survival. They switched them more down the stretch but this has been a habitual problem with points in the paint from South Dakota State on.
--West Virginia wasn’t ready to play and they’re to the point now where they are like the other teams in the top ten with that mindset. You play a top team and you’re fired up. Iowa State tonight was excited to beat a top ten team tonight and played like it, while West Virginia wasn’t ready to play. Going into today, the visiting teams were 4-0 in the league which was something they had talked about.
--The coaches tried to show them the good things the opponent does but they just came off losing to Kansas State who lost to a non-division one team. It’s human nature not to give them the respect that they deserve and West Virginia didn’t. They weren’t ready and Huggins knew it in warmups, but they did everything they could do to try to prepare them for what they would see but they can’t go out and guard the ball for them.
--Huggins said Derek Culver can’t drop his head and start dribbling it. He has to catch the ball and quarter it to see what is happening. Culver needs to read the defense in those situations and if he would do that and make some good passes out then they wouldn’t come in and triple team him.
--Huggins said overlooking teams has been going on for a long time.
--There was desperation in the second half at the foul line and they had to make them to stay in the game. That’s concentration and standing up there when you know you have to make them. You don’t know what it’s like until you have to do it and make free throws. That’s a lot of pressure. They knew if they lost this one they were falling out of the top ten and maybe into the high teens and they might still do that anyways given how they played.
--Kansas is good. They’re talented and it’s a huge win for them in Lubbock. The Jayhawks will have a decent crowd and they are playing really well.
