--West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins said he hopes the NCAA Tournament doesn’t make them fly 400-miles to play the next game when comparing this current run of upcoming games compared to the tournament. The hard part of it is the travel and nobody gets it until they do it.
--David McCormick has been the change for Kansas as they have been throwing the ball to him. He’s improved more than anybody he’s coached against in 40-years. He’s never seen a guy get better that fast and he is a threat for them. He’s always been a great rebounder, but his skill level has improved dramatically. He has put himself in position to be one of the most talked about guys in the country.
--It’s important for sophomore Deuce McBride to make shots. He is the one guy that can create his own shot, which is critical on this team for success.
--Huggins doesn’t remember anything from when he played six ranked teams in a row at Cincinnati so he can’t speak on what he learned. They haven’t thought about anything other than Kansas right now.
--Chris Beard said it the best, we will no longer recruit it will be all roster management when it comes to the way that coaches build teams. Everybody will recruit from the portal because you can evaluate things better. He is not for it and has never been for it, but it’s going to happen. Huggins thinks about it and he said the one advantage he has is he’s old enough to retire.
--Bill Self is a very good coach and he always has really talented players on his roster.
--Huggins said he doesn’t really want to change his recruiting philosophy but he’s going to have to in order to keep up when it comes to mining the transfer portal. He thinks that approach teaches the wrong kind of things and it will be one of the many things that will hurt the country.
--You have to say between your man and the basket. You can’t let your man go by you; you have to make them shoot it over top of you. That’s how you stop, and you don’t need a rim protector. Some of the great teams are able to simply stay between their man and the basket. A lot of things have changed due to rule changes, but that principle hasn’t changed.
--West Virginia hasn’t finished what they’ve started against Kansas in games.
--West Virginia has always played tough games against opponents and it makes you better. It makes you understand how much better you’ve got to get to compete on that level, too. Huggins wants the people of West Virginia to be proud of his team and come to the Coliseum and root for their team.
